petuniaflower Posted December 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2019 Are all of these ports, or are some look at glacier from ship type of thing where you dont get off the ship? Sitka, Glacier Bay (Cruising), Icy Strait Point, Cruise Hubbard Glacier, Skagway, Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier (Cruising), Juneau, Ketchikan, Victoria Trying to decide if this itinerary is appropriate considering cost of excursions in Alaska. Thanks! Glacier Bay is no port. Cruise Hubbard Glacier is no port. Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier is no port. The rest are stops where all passengers may disembark the ship. Sitka for wildlife (otters, deer, whales, sea lions, whales, and grizzly bears at Fortress of the Bear) Juneau for whale watching. Ketchikan for eagles (Crab Fishing excursion on the Aleutian Ballad) Victoria for Butchart Gardens flowers
CoW mAn Posted December 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 6, 2019 It is possible to have an excursion on a Sea Day though...a small ship may come along side the cruise ship and people can go off on an excursion however it's often very expensive
crystalspin Posted December 10, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 10, 2019 What Roger (Crew News) said, but I will be substituting Totem Bight to see eagles AND totems. And at Skagway pick any of the train excursions; we have done both up and back (do not get off the train), and train up/bus back. We liked the latter, better. You have a few minutes to walk around at the turnaround spot and the bus stops for a few photo opps. Am not sure which excursion to pick for next year; I'd go for the luxury car, but the tour is first thing in the morning -- what a waste of an open bar! Glaciers Posted December 12, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 12, 2019 Your ship may offer an optional excursion at Hubbard Glacier operated by Allen Marine, booked through the cruise line. It’s a bit pricey and there are a couple of threads about whether it’s worth it or not. It may be the video cowman posted.
