Help me choose a cruise

Hi all, I've never cruised on NCL. Which would you choose?

 

Norwegian Sun, 5 night:

Great Stirrup Cay

Grand Bahama

Nassau (I would go to Blue Lagoon)

 

OR

 

Norwegian Breakaway. 7 night:

Great Stirrup Cy

Ocho Rios

Cozumel

Grand Cayman

 

If it matters, I'll be turning 40 and travelling with 3 retiree family members, in 2 balcony rooms.

I dream of clear calm beaches, not water slides or history tours.

Breakaway. 
 

 

The Norwegian sun is one of the oldest and smallest ships in the fleet. It does back to back short cruises in the Caribbean.The ships entertainment is more of a traditional cruise ship. (I am trying to avoid the term booze Cruise because that’s not really what it is). 

 

The breakaway is a relatively new ship, and has recently undergone a major drydock facelift. Since the breakaway is a mega ship, there’s a lot more dining entertainment options available on board. That’s the reason why I would pick the breakaway over the sun.

The 7 day .....

The seven day if you like to snorkel. In the 16 cruises I have taken, with the exception of Alaska, I have snorkeled on all of them and Cayman has the best, hands down.

I would choose the 7 day simply because I don't like short cruises.

Breakaway - bigger ship which I don’t normally like but Sun is too small. Plenty of options and like the outdoor restaurant and bar seating. Better shows and more live music. And of course 7 days is better than 5.

You said you dream of clear waters .... I'd always choose a 7 day over a 5 day, but especially because you want clear water. I'd pick western Caribbean over the Bahamas any day of the week. In Ochos Rios, go to Blue Hole. My whole family still talks about this excursion we did 2 years ago. Cozumel go to Jade Caverns (the retirees may or may not be able to do this) and Grand Cayman go out and pet and touch the Rays and see starfish island.

The seven day, hands down.  Besides being longer, the ship is better and the islands much better.

The Breakaway is a mega ship, more passengers with lots of on board activities.  The Sun is an older ship, less passengers BUT does have larger balcony cabins.

For what you have outlined,  the Breakaway would be my choice.

I don't snorkel and I'd rather refurbished and big over older and smaller. So the Breakaway wins.
