coachj5452 Posted January 13, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2020 I have taken 10 cruises, but they have all gone south. I am now scheduled on the Ruby Princess to Alaska in July. Can someone tell me what clothes to pack? Does it get cold enough for winter type clothes? Also if anyone has Princess Patters or Ruby menu's, I would love to see them. frugaltravel Posted January 13, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2020 (edited) The key in Alaska is layers with the outer layer being waterproof. This applies during the entire cruise season. For Glacier viewing days hat and gloves would be helpful. Edited January 13, 2020 by frugaltravel
skynight Posted January 13, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2020 Yes, layers. Can be cool, cold, warm. Remember a cap, socks and shoes. Also sunglasses.
WisCruiser2 Posted January 13, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2020 Check the Alaska board for lots of info, too. And enjoy Alaska!
BigGuy25 Posted January 13, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2020 As other have said, layers is the answer. And, if you don’t have one, invest in a good rain shell, with a hood, that’s big enough to fit over anything you’re wearing. You’ll be happy you did! doverboy Posted January 13, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2020 Regardless of what you pack or forgot to pack there are RACKS of clothing and rain gear to purchase at just about every port and the stuff is very inexpensive. Layers are great but I found that the 29.00 reversible vest I purchased worked wonders as did the hoodie I bought from Princess Wilderness resort. nini Posted January 13, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2020 The Alaska forum is an excellent source of information from what to bring, how to dress, and providers of shore excursions, etc. It will be more detailed than the Princess forum. We have experienced 75 degree weather in Ketchikan and a range of weather in all ports. And remember some warm gloves on glacier days!

Frugaltravel has aid it best, layers and a waterproof (not resistant) outer shell. This actually good advice for most cruises and an easier way to pack. I do bring the gloves for those potentially colder days on deck viewing the glaciers.
towhee Posted January 13, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 13, 2020 Just to add to the conversation - we've been in Juneau when it was 34 and when it was 75. So by all means layers!
mleah73 Posted January 28, 2020 #11 Share Posted January 28, 2020 Hello! I am going on this same in ship in July as well (the 11th) and have been wondering the same thing. I have been going to instagram and searching #princessalaska, then looking at what people were wearing!
