Beukeboom Posted January 20, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2020 My wife and I are going to be on a cruise aboard the Harmony of the Seas fairly soon and one of the ports will be at San Juan. There's not any excursion there that interests us so we were just planning on taking a taxi into Old San Juan for lunch and/or dinner. What are some good restaurants in Old San Juan that feature local cuisine? Also, once we are dropped off at the restaurant what's the best way to get a taxi back to port? Can the restaurant call a cab for us? Are there taxi stands within walking distance of most Old San Juan restaurants?
Clarea Posted January 20, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2020 Raices. Walking distance to the pier.
navybankerteacher Posted January 20, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2020 Cafe Manolin on San Justo in the center of the old city. It looks like a small town coffee shop in the US, so lacks the typical atmosphere - but has great local food, good service, and decent prices. soonernstlouis Posted January 20, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2020 Most OSJ restaurants are within walking distance from the San Juan Cruise Port Terminal. If you prefer transportation, I would recommend downloading the Uber app; never had a problem getting a ride within OSJ in minutes & cost is usually about $5. clo Posted January 20, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2020 I'm REALLY into food so I always search non-travel links. I was just going to give one of two here but there are so many, so don't me annoyed 🙂 https://www.google.com/search?q=best+restaurants+san+juan+puerto+rico&rlz=1CAEXLB_enGR739GR739&oq=best+restaurants+san+juan&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l7.12398j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-

Its a roof top restaurant/bar. Great food, fun casual atmosphere, and the 2 for 1 mojitos are always a plus. Its a short walk from the cruise pier. All of OSJ is walkable from the cruise pier. Best way to see the city is walk it.
clo Posted January 20, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2020 I haven't asked this before but will here anyway. Do you want to hang with the locals or go to a touristy place? Both with good food. And mojito is a Cuban drink.

Second that. They used to be two blocks from the pier, but were in a small ground level location. The current location, while a few blocks further away, is very nice with a good rooftop view of the surrounding OSJ. Interesting elevator ride! And the 2 for 1 Mojitos and Mofungo make it all worthwhile. Edited January 20, 2020 by leaveitallbehind

True, but it is very prevalent in SJ in part due to the use of the locally brewed Bacardi rum, which also got it's start in Cuba. My wife is a bit more adventurous than I am, however, and rides the elevator. But I usually get there at the same time!
