All we asked was for a credit down the line, as we frankly don't want to take the cruise at this time ( leaving from Hong Kong). Our request was rejected. Explained that as an asthmatic I'm even more concerned etc, no go. Given all the current developments however, things may quickly change and they may have no choice. Sounds like money - not the safety, security, and well-being of guests - is the number one priority! Yep, sounds like you'll need a government mandate. Good luck to you. Shell1964 Posted January 31, 2020 #29 Share Posted January 31, 2020 MKing8288 , I 100% agree . Influenza kills upwards of 50 000 people a year and how many people don’t get the flu shot .

Since it can take days for symptoms to present, someone can board a ship without a fever and still have the illness, thus subjecting passengers and crew to the illness. It sounds good in words, but the action does little to contain the possible spread of the disease. A person could also take Tylenol/Advil. If. Person is sick or has a fever they know this before going to port. So they plan to travel sick or not. So they would just take Tylenol/Advil. This along with the fact that you can be contagious before the fever and symptoms present, mean that the temp checks are just for show.

Have just read a statement from another cruise line , passengers that have been in Hong Kong for less than 15 days won't be permitted to board for a February sailing. So Hong Kong has been added alongside China. They have also changed their itinerary cancelling docking in Hong Kong.
Rare mking8288 Posted January 31, 2020 #32 Share Posted January 31, 2020 LOL, if someone believed Hong Kong must be included in the ban against sailing - with 12 confirmed cases tested as coronavirus, fine. Three other countries must be added ahead of them - Thailand, Japan & Singarpore, with 14, 13 and 13 confirmed cases each, respectively. Sorry, those NCL cruise ship passengers must be involuntary isolated for quarantine purposes for at least 15 days, before they can be released - providing there is a country/port that will allow them to disembark without further quarantine & medical screening - since, the viral infection can be asymptomatic and transmission from simple contacts. Better call in the USCG to airlift and drop them some survival MRE if they have no way of loading their regular provisions. My sources: translated real-time live data published by news.sina.cn based on official public health statistics released by China authorities - wow, OMG - a grand total death of 213, all reported from within China. Zero, as in 0 death thus far outside China, none in the U.S. How many hospitalized in the US and die from the seasonal influenza this month/this flu season (2019-2020) - don't be shocked, interesting read at the CDC website - here https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/index.htm Obviously, it is an unfolding & dynamic situation - not to downplay it as a non-public health issue, but it is NOT quite a global pandemic emergency, not yet. Influenza or the "regular" flu is far more deadly, including pediatric deaths in the U.S.
mugtech Posted January 31, 2020 #33 Share Posted January 31, 2020 Royal Caribbean is avoiding Hong Kong. The 2/15/20 9 day cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong was changed to round trip Singapore. The 2/24/20 Hong Kong to Singapore cruise is now also round trip out of Singapore and eliminated the port in Ilocos, Philippines.

That's an interesting development, I wonder if insurance will cover a change of flights? Unlike mainland China, Hong Kong does not have "no travel" advice so this is just a change of itenary by the cruise line. Change of the embarcation port for the 2/24/20 cruise, RCI is offering up to $400 per person to change the flights from Hong Kong to Singapore. We are flying from Manila, so RCI will reimburse us each $159, the cost of our PAL tickets to Singapore. Hotel in Hong Kong keeping our $100 For cancelled night of 2/23. The person who sent me the bad news signed the email Bunny Lee.

Royal Caribbean included in the email that anyone who traveled in mainland China or Hong Kong 15 days or less prior to the cruise will not be allowed to board the ships. This applies to all RCI cruises world wide.

After consultation with medical experts and public health authorities, we’ve decided that regardless of nationality, any guest or crewmember traveling from, to, or through mainland China or Hong Kong less than 15 days prior to their sailing will be unable to board any of our ships.

She's been out since early December 2019, we had a "welcome abroad" letter on the Gem from the new replacement. Not that it matter much, I can't seem to notice a difference for the better or the same. I dare to suggest, probably made it worst. BTW, anyone knows if Andy is gone - today is the 31st. - maybe, giving him a farewell party in Miami. Not a good month for airlines & cruiselines in stock prices. Rare mking8288 Posted January 31, 2020 #43 Share Posted January 31, 2020 Vivian Ewart replaced by Katty Byrd, as VP of Guest Services - onboard letter dated December 9, 2019 was in all the staterooms. Vivian, acoording to those that had contacts with her, was considered responsive ... at times. Well, we know that NCL's social media team continue to monitor & follow threads and posts here on CC, as in the coronavirus panic.
