Rare rueben Posted February 4, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2020 We are on the Getaway, leaving this Friday out of New Orleans. We want bottled water. I can pre-order 12 liters for $35.84 USD. I know NCL sometimes runs specials once on board. Does anybody know of any bottled water specials currently available?
casofilia Posted February 4, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2020 @Reuben We want bottled water. But do you NEED bottled water. The stuff you get at the dining table, that goes into your tea, coffee and ice cubes is the same that comes out of the tap!!!
fshagan Posted February 4, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 4, 2020 I've never seen a special on the water packages on board. We always pre-purchase the package. Ignore those who say the water out of the tap is the same as in the restaurants. It isn't. It is chlorinated and smells (and tastes) like pool water. Sometimes its off-color and heavily chlorinated. The water in the buffet, restaurants and bars does not have the chlorine taste, as it is carbon filtered, but it is still often "flat" tasting to me. On longer cruises it's often distilled from sea water that is re-mineralized to make it suitable for drinking (shorter cruises, or ones that don't get too far from shore often just use tap water from the port, then it's treated with pool chlorine). Don't worry about safety with the distilled water; while too much distilled water is bad, the ship's water is safe after this processing, and their safety standards are very stringent. But to me it tastes like $3 wine does to a wine connoisseur.
owlgirl31 Posted February 4, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 4, 2020 I purchased the water on board. I drink a lot of it and so it was a convenience in my opinion. Water in all restaurants was very good. Never tasted the water in the cabin bathroom.
jemz1949 Posted February 4, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2020 I always pre-purchase as it will be in my room when I arrive.....one less thing that won't take time away from my vacay.
Rare Turtles06 Posted February 4, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 4, 2020 Nothing wrong with the water in your cabin. Tastes fine. Use a refillable bottle and put it in your mini fridge. We just spent 20 days on the Gem, and did just that (as we always do on ships).

david_sobe Posted February 4, 2020 #8 Share Posted February 4, 2020 I want to pre-purchase water but I don't want liter bottles. I want those water cartons that are approximately 16 oz that you see all the time. Why does NCL only sell water but the liter? Big to carry around and don't fit in the fridge that easily. The only water packages sold online are liter bottles. I thought NCL did away with water bottles and wanted everyone to use the cartons. Yet they sell liter bottles? Why pay for expensive wine when Trader Joe's often has "three buck Chuck" available? All beer are the same. Why pay for expensive beer when the cheapest brand in the store is exactly the same? All cabins on the ship have a bed. Why pay more for an ocean view or balcony when an inside has a bed too? You can rest at home and not spend money on a cruise. I prefer the taste of bottled water. I spend my money on it. I can spend my money on what I want to spend it on and you have no business calling me "naive" because of it. I happen to know the difference between bottled water and municipal water, even though you do not.

oshunreef Posted February 4, 2020 #11 Share Posted February 4, 2020 Now the water is in plant based carton type containers. They are 16.9 ounce. It has a funny smell, but I think it is the container. The water tasted fine. When you order it is still in litters, so they just give you more containers. This was what we found on our sailing on the Epic 10 days on 1/16. I personally don’t think I will order the water again. We pre-ordered and it was in our cabin when we arrived.
Mikkar Posted February 4, 2020 #12 Share Posted February 4, 2020 We always order the water package either pre-order before the cruise or as soon as we get on the ship and it is delivered the same day. On our last cruise on the Bliss, we ordered from the Atrium Bar as soon as we arrived but hadn't received it that night and when we called guest services, they said it wouldn't be delivered until the next day. They managed to give us a couple of bottles at the bar but from now on we will always pre-order before the cruise. We have never seen a special during the cruise. schmoopie17 Posted February 4, 2020 #13 Share Posted February 4, 2020 How do you pre-order? We're booked on the Escape for May 3rd and when I go into our reservation on the NCL website, I see no option to order water. I see options for wine, strawberries...even diapers, but no water. Of course, at our age. after drinking all that water the diapers might come in handy 😁

I don't recall seeing any specials on drink packages of any type on the ship, including nothing for bottled water. The "bottled" water was NOT provided in bottles, but rather in the new plant-based cartons. I don't recall how much each carton held, but I think it was 1/2 liter. Mike_DeA Posted February 4, 2020 #15 Share Posted February 4, 2020 They don't run specials onboard for water, it's the same price as you'll find online beforehand. Better to pre-order so it's waiting for you.

CactusRoot Posted February 4, 2020 #17 Share Posted February 4, 2020 Does the Norwegian Sun allow passengers to bring water on board? We were thinking of buying some in one of the ports in Alaska. In past experience, on another Cruise Line, we bought 2 gallons in Skagway and had no problem. Does the Sun allow bringing a bottle of wine on board to drink in the room? Thanks

Once you pay the $15, you can enjoy it anywhere on the ship.

Take a reusable drink bottle, fill it up & put it in the fridge. Their litre bottles aren't that big & will fit in most backpacks - we seen so many Americans with them on our last cruise

yoolykeme Posted February 20, 2020 #22 Share Posted February 20, 2020 Make a friend that is CAS. Order 10 bottles of water from the server, and tip $5. Bring water to the room. You get water for cheap, and server is happy bc people don't tip on cruise ships as much as they should. Enjoy.

I'll bet it is more than $35.
