I have 4 cruises with Carnival scheduled for April and May - all booked under a casino offer of some type. All are "free" (pay a $200 deposit and receive $200 OBC). No letter yet - I'm wondering if my cruises will qualify for this offer.

Same situation here, booked on casino rate. We have 2 cabins booked. No email yet and we Sail in 2 weeks!

How will this prevent people from traveling while sick? You have to take advantage by March 31, and many aren't sailing until after that date, so they could still go while not feeling well. Even if you have up to 3 days prior to cancel, illness can strike in those 3 days prior to boarding. I do think RC's using the digital thermometer scanner IS a deterrant for people who are ill from heading to the port and trying to board.

I'm not sure I like this idea... What if all you have is a simple head cold? I'm getting over one now and I'm fine after 3 days. But if someone "screened" me I would be turned back at the port?

If you have a fever, yes, you should be screened further.  I don't care if it is a "head cold". If you have a fever, your immune system is fighting something and you may be contagious. Only thing I can see being allowed is something like an ear or sinus infection that may cause fever, but not be transmissable. And, FTR, they are using this as a screening tool. If you have a Dr note or they further evaluate you and see no risk of your spreading illness to others, they will let you board.

So we went through a travel agent.   I would assume any email would be routed through them.

Meanwhile someone in my cruise group is claiming this offer is only for people that booked directly through carnival.     I don’t see where they are getting that, but wondered if anyone that has received the OBC or email supporting it, went through a TA?

thank you in advance for any information.

I cancelled today through Costco.  I didn't inquire about the OBC, but cancellation applied to us through a TA.

I have a travel agent, she called carnival. She said carnival told her I can cancel up to 72 hours before my cruise and my non refundable cancellation fee goes for a furture cruise credit and the rest will of the cost of the cruise will go back on my credit card,I am not sure if this is correct. My cruise is for may 3rd,the only thing I saw  on the letter was you can cancel three days before if your sailing next week sometime. So I am  going to inquire about this again.

Everything is correct except you only have until March 31st to cancel, then you have until March 31, 2021 to cruise using the FCC. The 72 hour before sailing deadline cancellation policy is for March cruises only. While time consuming I had a great experience cancelling and rebooking my April 4th cruise with Carnival today, good luck and Happy Cruising!

This is our plan. Wee leave next Thursday on the Sunshine. Packing extra meds, planning to enjoy our vacay!

My daughter and a group of friends are doing a bachelorette cruise but 2 girls are backing out one with a small child and the other per dr advice told not to cruise because she is in her first trimester. The rest of the young ladies plan on enjoying theirs too.

Interestingly, children are only getting the coronavirus at like a 2% rate.

A question for those received a modified cancel policy from Carnival.

As of now we still did not receive the email (no it is not in the spam folder).  Our cruise will be on April 18 (7 days).  Did you book direct to Carnival or you book with a Travel Agent?.  We will need to call our TA to find out this information.  It is funny Princess has this information on their site (got another booked for June) but not Carnival even though Princess cancel policy is the same as Carnival.

Thank you.

Your TA received the notice from Carnival and is the one who will be notifying you.

We are to sail next Saturday 3/14 on Vista.  No email yet from Carnival, or our TA, who we will call later today.

It would be good if Carnival could put this information on their website, at least somewhere in the individual booking info for passengers who are scheduled on the affected cruises.   Best would be a way to handle it all online to avoid the phone deluge they are under.  But even in the best of times Carnival’s online presence has been less than stellar as most of us have experienced.  I am still very grateful that Carnival has offered this option for upcoming cruises.   I think we are all much less than 6 degrees of separation from exposure to covid.

FYI  Cruise Critic posted full details for Carnival's (and other cruise lines) new cancellation policies here - https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/5151/

Just received that email from Carnival at 02:33am PST this morning Sat 7Mar.

We booked on 4Mar for a cruise sailing on 5Apr because it was so inexpensive AND fit our vacation schedule over spring break here (my wife is a teacher), and purchased Carnival's vacation protection for the option to cancel without cause up to 48hrs prior to sailing.

So... I'll have to call and find out how Carnival's new cancellation policy will work if we decide to re-book.  I'm guessing that vacation protection plan would just carry over to the future cruise...

Can someone help me with this section of the new policy:

"For passengers who booked before March 6, 2020, if you decide to change vacation plans, Carnival will allow those booked on sailings between now and May 31 to move their booking to a new date and receive a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) in the amount of the non-refundable cancellation fee."

Cruise is first week of April and fully paid.  Cancellation fee is 50% of fare.

Does policy above mean we have to move our current booking to a new date and will be charged the 50% cancellation fee which we can then use for a future cruise?  So essentially we now have to take two cruises to come out even?  Very confused, thanks.

No  The way I understand it is the 50% cancellation fee will be your FCC and the other 50% will be returned to you in the original form of payment.

Ok, thank you.  That makes much more sense.

One other thing, I have had this happen before with FCC. When you rebook a new cruise you have pay a new deposit. The FCC cannot be used for the deposit.  just a heads up. After the deposit then you apply the FCC.

The email Carnival sent is confusing.  No where (that I can find) does it state that any $$ will be refunded to your credit card.

If this was not going on and you cancelled with a 50% cancelation fee  You would get back 50% to your original form of payment  and lose the other 50%

Now instead of losing 50% for canceling you get a FCC

Oh ok, that makes sense.  We've never cancelled a cruise.  Hoping we still don't have to!

I wish the airlines were being as gracious and understanding as Carnival.

We have a cruise booked for 4/19 that we are contemplating cancelling.  However, the airlines are now saying that you can cancel (or waive change fees) ONLY if you booked your flight in March 2020.

Looks like this new policy is attempting to enhance future revenue (during March) by enticing people to book while the virus is still spreading.  However, if you booked PRIOR to the virus being known (we booked our flights last September), then you're completely out of luck and will lose your money if you cancel.

Seems unfair to me, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised at anything the airlines do these days...

Garnett that is our dilemma.  We are cruising May 11th and just booked our airfare on Feb 28th and now saw if we booked in March we could cancel.  With having until the end of March to cancel our cruise I think we will hang tight for a bit.  Would be great if our cruise price dropped then may treat us to a suite-have balcony now.  If we get stuck on the ship having a bigger room would help😀

Yes! I just went through this with AA last night. They are not waiving change fees for previous bookings unless it’s to an area in the travel advisory (China, Italy, etc). I’m hoping this is soon modified to be more inclusive. Losing $200 bc it was booked in February vs losing nothing if it had been booked last week is really crappy imo. Especially since this is all in the form of future credit anyway (my $838 coach fare was a non-refundable rate). Ok. Rant off. Sorry.
