Carnival Modifies Cancellation Policy

I am very impressed with what Carnival is doing for people who are booked on upcoming cruises.  This gives everyone a chance to make a decision as to what is best for their family.  My husband and I will definitely be going on our cruise at the end of April.  The $200 OBC is icing on the cake.  Thanks, Carnival.  That's great customer service.

I'm so happy they are offering this.  This should really help eliminate the people that aren't feeling well but have decided to go anyways.  Hoping those that are unwell take this offer. (and more deck chairs will be available for  us. :)  )

2 cabins = $400 on board credit for our cruise in April!  We've been planning this cruise with our Grandchildren for almost a year.  Thank you Carnival!  I am happy we booked balconies, just in case!

How will this prevent people from traveling while sick? You have to take advantage by March 31, and many aren't sailing until after that date, so they could still go while not feeling well. Even if you have up to 3 days prior to cancel, illness can strike in those 3 days prior to boarding. I do think RC's using the digital thermometer scanner IS a deterrant for people who are ill from heading to the port and trying to board.

I have 4 cruises with Carnival scheduled for April and May - all booked under a casino offer of some type. All are "free" (pay a $200 deposit and receive $200 OBC). No letter yet - I'm wondering if my cruises will qualify for this offer.

if you rebook I dont think you get the $200. you could get up to $500 if you had paid more for this cruise, but remember that is like you prepaid for it then. 🙂

I am a little surprised this OBC is not per person or by stateroom category of some sort, not complaining, but not all cabins are equal on the same ship.

Waiting patiently to see how this will affect the Med cruises coming up this summer.  I expect the offer will be expanded to include those dates IF the situation in Italy remains dire.  We are booked for July 19th, and I realize much can change in that time frame.  I hate to fly to Europe only to be stuck on the ship for 9 days. Three of our ports are in Italy...

Oh yeah jeez... obviously correct - sorry.  I'm not planning on rebooking so I had the $200 on the brain.  So yes, it would cap at $500.

yes- and if you prepaid, you can request a refund and then pay on the ship.

We have a S2S Carnival to RCL scheduled this month.  RCL is allowing us to cancel within 48 hours of departure and apply the FCC to sailings through 12/31/2021, while Carnival limits us to using the FCC by 3/31/2021.  Also RCL is applying this policy to cruises through July 31, 2020.

 

I was expecting the cruise lines to do something like this, otherwise future bookings would be in jeopardy.

It's worth noting that Carnival is kicking in OBC on cruises through May 31st if you don't cancel where as RCL is NOT.

I would like to see all lines implement the digital temp scanner. Also in favor of staff at buffet serving the food and wrapping the silverware. Baby steps tho— this all changes so quickly so I bet we see some enhanced screening protocol added, too.

Saw this post earlier this morning & then later replies before I posted.

 

Like most, I appreciate Carnival trying to keep us happy.  Wish I had the same enthusiasm about wanting empty ships some have or how or if it benefits me that is most important.  Still want to cruise but want Carnival to succeed,

no one to die or be significantly  inconvenienced by a quarantine.  
 

My cruise is several months away & I hope all goes well for those cruising sooner & have a good time.  So many things to think about & no decision taken lightly or dismissed by others.

I can't speak for everyone but I'm pretty sure we all want that.  Enthusiasm about empty ships is a way to make the best out of a crappy situation, not about wanting people to suffer, including Carnival.

in all of my cruises, i noticed the silverware is wrapped in the napkin at the buffet

Thanks for assuming I am tying human suffering and personal benefit together.  I only advise people to use discretion in their joy over the situation.  It’s a no win situation for the cruise lines.  It’s at least an inconvenience if not outright fear for the common cruise traveler.  Enthusiasm is not appropriate IMO but gratitude and open discussion is.  Sorry if I’m too much of a downer as I usually am.

I, too, want staff to serve. It is a small change, IMO, and will be much more sanitary. Even if they ask people to wash hands prior to using utensils, people will still sneeze, cough, touch their faces while in the buffet area and then touch the utensils.

I just re-booked and yes, the amount you paid gets transferred to a new booking with any extra becoming an OBC.

I don't think people should be faulted for looking on the bright side of an uncomfortable situation.  Less people means less likelihood of being near someone who is sick.  It means less crowds for shows and shorter lines.  It doesn't mean at all that people are jumping for joy that Carnival is losing so much money or that people are thrilled that some are cancelling because of personal reasons.  Some people like to look at the cup as half full and try to find the positive in bad situations.

I think everyone is in agreement that we would prefer to cruise as usual without the health scares.  I am happy with the OBC and will look on the bright side of things.
