grapau27 Posted June 18, 2023 #46902 Share Posted June 18, 2023 Good afternoon. So far the predicted thunderstorms haven't appeared and it is sunny and 21°F. We had a lovely church service this morning then went to the garden centre for some summer plants. Pauline is busy planting them now.

lincslady Posted June 19, 2023 #46914 Share Posted June 19, 2023 A puzzle - what is funny about the chap who won 'Britain's Got Talent? Just seen him for the first time on BBC Breakfast, and I couldn't raise a smile. Have I lost my sense of humour? Some rain last evening, but not enough yet, here in Lincs.

No, you haven't lost your sense of humour. I saw him too, not funny at all unless you're under 10. I looked online to see the rest, and I was astounded by the quality of the other finalists. Utterly bemused. We've had plenty of rain in the past 2 days and more heavy rain forecast for tomorrow. I'll try and arrange a delivery⛈️ Avril 1

What is Britain's got talent and who eats BBC breakfast ?.🤔
lincslady Posted June 19, 2023 #46917 Share Posted June 19, 2023 I agree about the first, zapp. Never watched it; promos on ITV more than enough. I admit to usually having the TV on in the kitchen while I have my yogurt etc., partly as a bit of company as I am on my own.

Same old reporters interviewing the same old faces and them asking the specialist " correspondent " what they thought the interviewee should have said...CBBC is a bit more grown up...IMVHO.🤣

lincslady Posted June 19, 2023 #46922 Share Posted June 19, 2023 Does The Times count as a serious paper? I do hope so, I get it every morning a 6 a.m., through the postbox the old fashioned way. Not everyone's choice, I am sure.

It does in my book (despite its ownership) and it's my absolute favourite for (usually) unbiased and comprehensive news coverage. Also the only paper with proper legal coverage. I remember when the front page was all small ads, no news at all, back in the 60s. Seems incredible now. I like the paper copies, but I'm afraid the cost difference switched me to a digital subscription. Likewise the Telegraph, but I'd struggle to call that a serious paper these days.

lincslady Posted June 19, 2023 #46925 Share Posted June 19, 2023 I was brought up on what was then the Manchester Guardian (my father voted Liberal) and it was a good paper then. I find the Telegraph too much living up to it's nickname of Torygraph, although it is a nice read. The cost of having a daily paper is dreadful, I know, but it is about my only real extravagance, and having a village paperman who delivers in time for me to have a read in bed with my morning tea is excellent.
