geckoaz Posted April 8, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2020 (edited) Carnival will adapt on future cruises. What do you think will change? I think buffets will no longer exist. Maybe cafeteria where servers pick it out. Beveragrs will no longer be self served. Maybe 2 turn downs a day to make sure rooms are clean and occupants not sick. Not really sure how they can social distancing, maybe with less cruisers during ramp up cruises. Were you referring to the dining setup or the FUN things during the entertainment? geckoaz Posted April 8, 2020 Author #7 Share Posted April 8, 2020 Carnival posted ship cleaning standards. I am sure it is in flux but it fairly comprehensive.
TNcruising02 Posted April 8, 2020 #8 Share Posted April 8, 2020 I think they will step up on sanitation of the ship. It would be nice if the Carnival ships had sinks with soap and water as you enter the buffet like they did on Harmony of the Seas. Everyone had to go through these entrances and wash their hands with soap and water before entering the buffet area. If they can't do this, then stationing servers at the buffet area. I would prefer servers, although I personally wash my hands with soap and water after handling buffet utensils, but before I eat. I will say that after 15 cruises, I have never gotten sick on a cruise ship. I don't think buffet areas are any worse than handrails and elevator buttons. People need to wash their hands. Once there is a vaccine, I think things will get back to normal and this will fade away until the next new virus. i don't see them taking temperatures in the long run, but I could be wrong. It didn't take any time at all for them to do it on our last cruise.
beachbum53 Posted April 8, 2020 #9 Share Posted April 8, 2020 I can easily foresee, not just for cruising, but for air travel as well, that once an inoculation for the Corona virus has been developed and proven effective, we will all need some type of shot record to prove that we've been inoculated prior to traveling. Just as it is becoming mandatory to have a passport, it will be mandatory to have proof of inoculation. Those that have chosen not to get an anti-Corona shot will not be allowed to fly on a plane or go on a cruise.

That might be tough, as there are people that cant get vaccinations (allergies, or some other condition), and then you have the religious exemptions. I agree it would be prudent, however. Only problem is we may be months and months away from a vaccine, and I am sure air travel will resume before that - though here in NY all airlines have cut around 80% of flights in and out of area airports as of this moment. I would love to see more space between loungers on the decks - so tired of literally having to climb off the front of my lounge chair to get up as they are literally metal to metal- not an inch in between some. Wouldn't doubt if buffets will be served by staff from now on - but people would still be breathing on the food, so don't know how that would work. More distance between tables in the dining rooms would mean less people could be served at once - go to 3 dining times instead of 2? Less slot machines in casino to space them out more so we are not shoulder to shoulder? That will mean less revenue for CCL. Will be interesting to see how all this is handled. It would give more time to allow for rooms to be completed before passengers embark. I know of any number of cruisers who feel that the rules are not applicable to them, and who go through doors before 1:30 p.m. and go into rooms that are not yet finished being cleaned to drop off carry ons. I have heard people brag about it on just about every cruise I have been on. Don't understand it, but it happens a lot. It would also provide more time for sanitizing all food distribution areas. Same for all of the public rest rooms, allowing for deeper cleaning. With staff reductions that have taken place, and the larger ships now, I think the extra time would be well spent.

Even before all this, the first thing I did upon entering our cabin was to sanitize all surfaces. I know a lot of people did this. This also goes for hotel rooms.

On my last trip, I started sanitizing all door handles and the bathroom faucets. I will add this practice from now on and add drawer handles.

I've wished for years they would do this. We've boarded some ships and the cabins were dusty dusty & the bathrooms (especially on older ships) - ugh. They have enough time to do basic cleaning. Not sure if a 24 hour turnaround would help in getting a little bit better cleaning but would be nice to find out. They will never get rid of buffets. Other than put more Purell stands out the only thing that will change are prices - they'll increase in booking cost, drinks, excursions, shops to recoup what they've lost.

Overnight in port was how it was done for decades in the days of ocean liners. The practice only stopped in the late 70s with the QE2 introducing the quick turnaround to save money. The purpose of my post was, is the “extra” cleaning of the room where the problem comes from? What will they accomplish in 24 hours? Is it really 24 hours they need? Seems way over the top to me. So, to take your idea to task, let’s end every cruise a day early (still the same cost to the client) so the staff can clean stuff that that’s already been cleaned. Really do not think that will happen. Not sure I understand what deeper means either. Listen, I get the point but where is the line in the sand? This seems like a bigger problem for the airlines than cruise ships....
