We have done lots of ferry vacations in Greece and Turkey.  Plus one down the Croatian coast.   Also done lots of ferry travel in Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia-from the fast ferries, smaller ferries down to chartering a long tail boat to get between small Thai  islands that have no ferry service.  We now prefer this to cruises in these areas.

We love travelling this way and typically do it twice a year.   One piece of advice though.  Take a roller 20 inch carry on only.  You will regret taking heavy, bulky luggage that you cannot handle easily.  We have many people struggle to climb down steps, even ladders as they crossed tied up ferries to reach their ferry all the while trying to manage heavy 25 inch cases plus a carry on.  Try lifting these in and out of a long tail boat.  No fun whatsoever.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but this is a little related.  Think of the "anti cruise" stuff that has come out and everyone gets angry about lately.   "ships are a floating petri dish" was a big one.  Well, there was news today that 5 crew members onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt who had previous tested positive, quarantined, tested negative and returned to the ship have re-tested positive.  Those 5 and all who were in contact with them have been quarantined.    Could you imagine if the same procedure happened on a cruise ship (crew tests positive, etc...)???

It's so true. We know almost nothing at this point. IMO we have to err on the side of caution. Those people on ships can then return home and start the spike all over again. I'm pretty angry about the selfishness of some people.
