June 2020 Update: HAL Dry Docks, Charters & Groups

Recommended Posts

The charters and group sailings organisations have been slowly updating their plans, so the information listed here may change over the coming months.

The information on the HAL website is sometimes contradictory to the information posted by charter organisations (i.e. some dates which are shown as charters on the organiser's website is still available to book on the HAL website).  Also there are gaps in the itineraries for various ships (e.g. Veendam April 28th to May 8th 2021 which shows no cruises and I cannot find any charters!).

Zaandam and Amsterdam have missed their dry docks which were scheduled to happen in April and May 2020 and as yet no updated scheduled dates are available.

If you have information about groups charters or dry docks then please post here and I will update in the next file.

New information is shown in Red

According to correspondence I received from StarVista, who is hosting the Malt Shop Memories cruise, they are delaying its 2020 sailing on the Eurodam and will instead be sailing October30 - November 6, 2021 on the Nieuw Amsterdam.

Thanks for that information.  I see that they have updated their website to show that date.

Two more changes from StarVista:

  • The Soul Train Cruise, listed as being scheduled for January 17-24, 2021 on the Eurodam, has been rescheduled for January 22-29, 2022 on the Nieuw Amsterdam.
  • The Country Music Cruise, listed as being scheduled for January 24-31, 2021 on the Eurodam, has been rescheduled for November 13-20, 2021 on the Nieuw Amsterdam.

Thanks for the updates.

I may consider not posting an update for July as there are so many changes being made and it is difficult to keep up to date.  Also HAL are not really helping by not being forthright on their plans.

You're welcome.

I think this thread and your spreadsheets are extremely valuable!  Please update us as much as you possibly can!  Don't blame HAL for this mess; plans for every cruise line have been updated (and, IMHO, will continue to be updated) many times since this all started.

Sorry, I wasn't blaming HAL per se.  It was more a personal thought regarding the continuing uncertainties that afflict us,  that I committed to paper!  I don't like to give incorrect or bad information

There are so many changes in every aspect of life that it becomes a little overwhelming sometimes to complete a basic function of creating a spreadsheet.

I hear you.  I'm in the information business myself when I'm not cruising/thinking about cruising and I hate to pass along bad info.

And yes, this whole pandemic has changed many things in everyone's life, and not just cruising.  Sometimes I forget that.

@VMax1700 here is the information on the Zuiderdam charters in May, 2020.  They are 3 7 day cruises and jazz cruises I believe - https://www.davekozcruise.com/2021/pricing-availability/

Thanks for that info!

They sailed RCI last year and had planned RCI again for this year until it was cancelled.  2022 they are on RCI again, but are returning to HAL in 2021.

Anyway this explains the 'missing' 3 weeks from Zuiderdam's spring 2021 itineraries.

Yes, it’s a real bummer as the TA itinerary is nice but without another cruise with it to make it a collectors’ or B2B, most of our former roll call that were supposed to be on the Zuiderdam this year aren’t interested, sadly.

From memory, the original TA was scheduled to end in Civitavecchia, whereas now it is terminating in Barcelona.

Also, interesting that they are doing a 'turnaround' in Lisbon.

The Zuiderdam then needs to sail from Lisbon after the 3rd cruise (ending May 23rd) to start its next scheduled cruise in Civitavecchia on May 26th.

You could do a 13 day road trip across southern Europe and pick up the premier voyage of Ryndam, if you are feeling lucky with dates! 😜🙄

I know this thread hasn’t been updated in a few months but was curious about any info on the NA dry dock.

it was scheduled for this year as it’s coming up on 3 years but now seems to be cancelled. The NA is now the ship that has gone the longest without a dry dock. I am looking at a longer Panama Canal transit for 2021 and was hoping it might be done by then.

I would not be so sure, I would rather believe that it is cancelled than otherwise. Moreover, I would search for some other opportunity right now, maybe try searching for some foreign cruising companies or some deal outside the US. Panama Canal transit 2021 will certainly be affected
