Radiance TA or PC before Long Beach?

I would be interested in booking either a Radiance TA or PC, if the dates work, and if either voyage actually exists to book.  Has anyone heard anything as to the possibilities?

So far neither voyage exists for booking. I would think a Transatlantic voyage is highly unlikely, and a Panama Canal voyage is only slightly less unlikely. Given that these may potentially be some of the first sailings involving US ports, I doubt we're going to see anything too adventurous in terms of itineraries. There might not even be a full crew complement until the ship gets to Long Beach.

At least if something goes amiss on the Baja itineraries, Radiance will never be more than a day's sail from Long Beach.

Funding for the work is not an issue. A working shipyard is a bit of an issue, but will only affect delivery, and at the moment there is plenty of time. Travel restrictions would make it difficult to martial crew and pax for the voyage to Long Beach. More likely they would pass Gibraltar and sail on a great circle for the Canal Zone. This sort of makes TA or PC with pax out of the question.

Personally I would like a limited pax journey from Europe to Long Beach, bare bones, meaning no entertainment, make your own bed, crew meals, and up to two hours a day work assignments, meaning kitchen, laundry, and housekeeping. Could be fun.

Sounds good to me as well

Doubtful. Can you imagine what would happen if there was a C19 outbreak on the ship? The trend is going to be to shorter cruises for quite a while.

If Carnival had the money, perhaps they would like to cough up the remaining $800 million (approx) that is still outstanding for the completed P & O Iona. They are going to require at least $3 - $4 billion to take delivery of all the ships that are nearing (or already completed).

Wouldn't surprise me if they went through the Suez and crossed the Pacific without general passengers instead and kept it with minimal crew or picked some up in the Philippines, India and Indonesia along the way.

Without knowing the costs for the Suez, we know the Panama Canal without passengers can be quite expensive and this would help save on airfare and charter flights for their shipboard staff.

😁  Hey, we have a Fun Squad Employee right here in our house!! 😁

No airfare needed, we could take him via the car (short trip— about 40 minutes).

Give Marky Mark a call Carnival, when you are getting close .... 🛳❤️🛳❤️

The Radiance is heading straight to Long Beach according to their press release:

Carnival Radiance will now move directly from Europe after its $200 million transformation and homeport in Long Beach in April of 2021, where it will assume the short Baja Mexico itineraries previously served by Carnival Imagination and Carnival Inspiration.

They do. Not a problem.

Kind of surprising scrapped ships are choosing the PC if the Suez route is cheaper.

Fascination was in Malta. Fantasy and Inspiration were in Curacao. Which ships went through the PC?

I'm not even sure if Suez is- just the possibility of a more ideal route and potential cost difference. PC isn't cheap -- that much I know.

Inspiration and Imagination both passed through the canal. Imagination is on the Atlantic side of the canal, and Inspiration is nearing Gibraltar from the Atlantic.

The Panama Canal exists because it is more economical than sailing transpacific to get to Europe.

The Suez is not cheap. Large freighters pay about 450K, and passenger ships pay $140 per berth, so 500K pays for 3600 berths.

There is also the problems with corrupt canal officials, pirates in the Red Sea and a war going on across the bab al-mandab strait. This is the most dangerous strait in the world. You do not want to send an American owned asset through there without a Navy escort. The Suez only saves you time. It is about 200K cheaper to sail around South Africa.

The Inspiration was already through the canal at the time we were led to believe it was destined to be sold and began its transit to the scrapyard. The Panama Canal also exists because it provided a more ideal option to transport goods from the Atlantic to/from the Pacific without sailing around the Horn of South America. Carnival ships also aren't American owned assets as the corporation is incorporated in Panama with their ships registered in Panama and the Bahamas.

I had thought this was an option based on early speculation with the Panorama's route being a transpacific but instead, it sailed around the Horn. If flights still aren't widely available for several thousand crew members or the cost is excessive, this could still provide an opportunity to pick up some employees similar to how they used their ships to get them home. The ship eventually has to get to California anyway.
