Where was I?

Recommended Posts

I arbor no ill feelings for that remark.

I am travelling so didn't want answer as I may not have WiFi til much later in the day. I also only have access to photos from this trip in Egypt.

Yes, Lake Burley Griffin.  Bonus point if you can identify the background.

I should have also said it is your turn.  The lake was good enough.  The background is part of the National Arboretum.  Good play on words from Mic.

I will have a punt and say Lake Macquarie

Correct. Your turn

The answer was right there on the left. It's a great spot for sunsets. A few posts ago there was a request(?) for pretty pictures. Here's another.

Great shot Lyndon, hopefully we can get something like that when we visit. Thanks for posting "pretty pictures"

In contrast to the pretty pictures, this is a relic from an event quite significant to New Zealand and still commemorated.

Where and what is it?IMG_1564.thumb.jpeg.d1029f68ada43c6f272722d40bc923d4.jpeg

We used to build models of battleships when we were kids and knew many of the parts and functions of warships. The Graf Spee and Bismark and the HMS Hood were among the most popular models.

It is a range finder from the Graf Spee which was scuttled off S America in WW2. It is in Motevideo.

More info for history buffs.

Correct, the German battleship was damaged during the 1st sea battle of WW2, known as the Battle of the River Plate, couldn't repair itself locally so scuttled itself off Montevideo.

The NZ ship Achilles was the first ship to go into battle under the NZ flag.
