Not knowing enough about Australian Government, I will just guess Government House because that would be where you would go to get a gong like that here.

Adrian, I looked at the order of decorations and that looks like "The Order of Australia" I assume that is like the Order of Canada which would be awarded in our National Capital of Ottawa at Rideau Hall the residence of our Governor General. Here in BC it would be the Order of British Columbia and it would be awarded at "Government house" here in Victoria. The official Residence of the Lieutenant Governor.

He was awarded the OAM for services to the community through his volunteer work with the Vinnies and RSL.

 

my younger brother now has the medal set. I have a small one on his set of service miniatures.

 

Yes Lyle, it is the equivalent of the Order of Canada. These were introduced when we moved from the British awards system.

This particular headstone marks the place of a friend of my Dad. The three flags are Our current flag, the red ensign was our national Flag at the time of the raid and the Green and yellow flag is the province of Saskatchewan. That patch of black soil is from the family farm in Saskatchewan, we brought that with us.

Hint, the date on the headstone is relevant to where I was.

Harvey Dicus was killed in action during Operation Jubilee

We took a rubbing of his headstone and sent it to his brother in Saskatchewan
