Where was I?

Looks very like Bora Bora, except the airport is in the wrong spot.

I would say Tahiti Islands, perhaps Maupiti Island, which is just west of Bora Bora.

Excellent guess👍 It is Maupiti. Wonderful island with the best Lagoon we visited. It is shallow enough you can walk to the motus and they have great snorkelling with manta rays. We were lucky to visit during Heiva festivities which was so much fun 🤗

It looks and sounds so similar to Bora Bora, those waters are phenomenal. We too spent the day in the water with the fish, sharks and rays and magnificent corals.

It is Bora Bora 50 years ago they say😂. There are no resorts and the inhabitants have rejected every application leading to their unfortunate reputation as the most unfriendly island😔. Which I can assure is not true 😁. The people are lovely and we stayed at a local fare along with a French nurse who was working on the island. She had briefly gone back to France said when she returned to FP she could never live in France again😂

In a book shop

It's a multi level book shop  .. all the pillars could mean basement or lower level..

and the foreground there is a sign stating the religious area

Also photo could be old as they are using crt screens

Could be in USA ?

It looks to me like Grummans Chinese theatre in Hollywood.
