Rare RCCL Fan Posted August 23, 2020 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2020 When Quantum went to Asia, I remember RCI saying they were making changes to the ship so that she would appeal uniquely to the Chinese market. I specifically remember them saying Johnny Rockets was being replaced with a Noodle House, and the spa was going to be converted to something else, because spas are quite different in asia. There were going to be more gaming tables put in... retail space would be converted to more casino spa, and part of the music hall would be even more casino space. Well, my wife was just about to book an Alaska cruise for us next year and it's onboard Quantum. I was surprised as I knew she had all these changes and thought she wouldn't be leaving China. I'm doubting RCI is spending the money to retrofit her to come back to the US.... and considering I've never been on a casino on a ship, I don't know that I want three. Anyone have any insight into what was done to quantum when she went to Asia and if anything is being done (i know, it's likely not) as she heads back Just curious if I'll be eating dim sum or cheeseburgers.... Chiliburn Posted August 23, 2020 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2020 I read somewhere the noodle bar which is next the pool will become the pool side cafe . They will probably be short on cash to do to many modifications but going on experience with Ovation. They just took the gaming machines out of the high roller room and put up a diamond lounge sign .Did a few modifications to Kung fu panda put up a Fish &ships sign. Rare twangster Posted August 24, 2020 #7 Share Posted August 24, 2020 (edited) Fish & Ships was installed as we sailed to Alaska on Ovation when she arrived for the first time in Vancouver. They had construction workers waiting to board with the rest of us. Not long after departing the renovation started. There may be not a lot of money to spend on renovations but on the other hand if there is additional revenue involved that pays for the reno in the near term they'll find the money. In the case of Ovation she had been in Oz for a while at this point and was beginning her Oz/Alaska cycle for several years so Fish & Ships made sense. With Wonder delayed if Quantum will be still be spending time in Asia that changes the math. They might not make significant changes. Time will tell. It didn't stop me from booking Quantum to Alaska. Ovation and Quantum are way more similar than different and in Alaska I spend a lot of time doing Alaska and not so much the ship. We also ask in the Windjammer if they have Asian Stir Fry (Mongolian Barbecue). Some ships have it every day, others once or twice a week. We tend to prefer it to a full meal in the dining room. We have had them put on such a fuss and bring up a Philippines sinigang or adobo from the crews kitchen. They seemed amazed that we wanted their food and not a hamburger. Also true for Indian food, which we also enjoy. We mentioned to a head waiter on the first night that we enjoyed samosas and pakoras. For every night after we had an Indian dish along with whatever we wanted from the menu.
