The current available information is that despite a person having the vaccine they can still get and pass on the virus which makes this a nonsense, a vaccine passport proves nothing other than the person carrying it may have had the vaccine (many ways can be copied) Having the passport will not stop a person from taking the virus on an aircraft or ship nor will it stop them taking it back home. Asymptomatic people would make this even worse because no one knows who or where they are! it can be likened to a Fools Paradise.

You just called the entire concept of vaccines meaningless.

History has shown that after a large percentage of a population is vaccinated, whatever the vaccine was for the transmission is broken.  Are you talking short term, where everyone on the ship is vaccinated but a large part of the general population is not?

 

If so, then in the US, by the time we get to board a cruise a large percent of the general population will be vaccinated.  100% on the ship.  The odds of a vaccinated person having the virus, giving it to another vaccinated person, and then that second person passing it on farther has to be pretty low.

Found this Definition of a Vaccine, going by this the Covid Vaccine is not a true vaccine because it does not prevent people from getting the virus.

So let's see where we agree before we disagree.

1) Nothing can prevent the virus from entering your body if exposed, whether you are vaccinated or not.  Agree or Disagree?

 

2) All vaccines work the same, while they come in different forms.  They "teach" your body how to fight the disease ahead of time, so if/when you are exposed again you fight the disease off.  Natural immunity occurs by your body fighting on it's own the disease after exposure, which may result in serious sickness or death.  Agree or disagree?

 

3) Why are we still vaccinated against diseases many of us have never heard of?  Because those diseases still do exist, though rare, and you could be exposed again.  Agree or Disagree?

Let me be clear: if your reaction to every possible solution to Covid is that it isn't good enough and won't stop the virus, kindly get off Cruise Critic and don't come back. There is no perfect world, there is no utopia. Every solution is bound to be imperfect. If perfection is what you seek and 0% risk, you shouldn't only never cruise again, you should never leave your house.

Fortunately, the rest of us live in the real world and will be fine with the protocols. You can decide to complain about every solution and stay home, but you don't speak for the rest of us.

 

 

 

Your post tacitly suggests that each of those mitigations on their own will stop the virus, when most readers would almost certainly understand that could not be the case. Perhaps it is just poorly written, and you didn't think too much or even read it before submitting....or maybe the sole intent was to insult whoever it was directed at?

 

Now, if you meant to write that all of these mitigations together would be a possible solution to COVID-19 then that would have been a totally different matter and therefore such a post may have made some sense to us! 😉

Actually, data is emerging that the vaccine DOES significantly reduce the chances of transmission.  Israel, which has done the most vaccinating of a major country,  just reported a study showing a 90% drop in transmissions from infected people.  Other studies show similar results.  Only the highest quality N95 mask, expertly fitted, provides that level of transmission protection.  If this holds up it will absurd to enforce masking and social distancing on vaccinated people.

... indicates a big reduction against the original variant.

 

However, I have come to respect the virus. Already, covid has variants that substantially circumvents vax for the original variant. For example, Novavax has data from South Africa where protection is reduced from 89% to 49%. That's a coin toss; 50/50.

 

I'm really interested in studies on the Brazil variant. Early indications are that prior infection from the original strain provides no protection.

 

Both variants are already circulating in North America.

 

Only time will answer the most crucial question. How long does the vax immunity last against covid's variants?

 

So, I intend to listen to the experts and continue to observe safety guidelines. Including double masking. As a precaution, I have a score of N95 and KN95 in reserve, just in case, covid gets really kinky!
