@Mary229, as you're probably aware, there's a 14-day segment - Buenos Aires to Santiago.  The cabins available for the 31-day itinerary are rather slim, so best to book as soon as you can, especially if you have your heart set on a particular category or cabin.  I was able to book a G partial sea view on Deck 4.  Only 3 were available.

It would be nice to have someone I "know" onboard.

I think I have that wrong.  I will have to drag him in front of the computer later today to be sure.  We keep separate lists😁

This is my retirement cruise.  Longest cruise to date has been 13 days.

Great.  In 2016 we took our first 30+ day cruise since cruising was a major part of our retirement plan and we wanted to make sure we really wanted to do so.  Those 30 days flew by and we signed up for the VOV 2017 before debarking.  He retired in 2018 and I retire in 2022.  So this will actually be my first true retirement cruise.

I will tell you once you do a long cruise you may never want to go back to shorter cruise.

Mary, my last day of work will be Nov. 30, 2022, so the timing works perfectly.

I believe you when you say "once you do a long cruise you may never want to go back to shorter cruise".

@AtlantaCruiser72 where did you see the Tales of the South Pacific in Fall 2022 bookable as a 47 day out of San Francisco?  It’s nt on the website and the PCC I spoke with said it’s only available out of Vancouver or San Diego, 50 or 45 days respectively.

@zelker

I received the detailed itinerary for the Fall 2022 Tales of the South Pacific and it’s different segments from my PCC.  It showed all three segments, and my husband and I were interested in sailing out of S.F.,  but the way the voyage has been set up is the guests sailing from YVR to SAN or round trip SAN will be able to select staterooms.  The guests sailing from SFO to SAN will be on a guarantee.  This is most likely due to HAL also offering a Coastal voyage of 5-days from YVR to SAN.   We decided to choose our cabin and sail from Vancouver.

Thanks.  I just found it by clicking on the Inactive tab in the Search on HAL's site - but since it is Inactive, you can't even select it to see anything further about it.  Will tell our friends in case they want to pursue SF further but for now they're also booked RT San Diego.

The 47 day segment from SFO looks to not currently be bookable as all categories show "W" next to them (waitlist only).  That said they may open select categories down the road as gty bookings, or allow you to waitlist select categories should inventory control decide to open up space.

Wow! Interesting. Needless to say, we would love to cruise out of SF. We live 30 minutes away. I love sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge. It never gets old. BUT, we got our preferred cabin out of San Diego. We will keep an eye out in case we get to change embarkation ports at a later date and keep the same cabin.
Cheers, Denise

If the 47 day version from SFO becomes available to book you would have to rebook at prevailing rates/promos, and select only from the cabin #s allocated to that sailing option.  It is essentially a cancel/rebook and a new booking # would be issued.

So - new booking #, new cabin #, new pricing, new promos.  The only carroyover would be whatever $ or FCC were on the booking as payment/discount

Thanks for that info! Since we got our #1 cabin choice, we will be flying to San Diego!! We do love staying in the town before the cruise. Flying  there is easy peasy.

Denise -  Flying to/from Denver is easy-peasy for us too (and quick and cheap).  As for a pre-cruise hotel, I know a lot of people recommend the Springhill Suites across from the port but we're open to other suggestions if you have any.  Barb

Hi Barb,

We have stayed in both the Embassy Suites and the Wyndham. ES was a bit further from the port but we still walked our luggage to the ship.Ok it took two trips. We packed way too much.

In 2019 we stayed at the Wyndham. We loved being able to see the Amsterdam come into port in the morning. We will most likely stay there again.

Cheers, Denise

I know many prefer staying close to the port, but in San Diego I like the touristy-tackiness of staying in Old Town, even if only for 1 night.  Yes there's a slight extra cost for taxis/uber to the pier, but worth it to be able to walk around, poke in all the shops, drink Many Margaritas, have some yummy Tex Mex, dance to some Mariachi and stumble back to my hotel :)

I've stayed at both the Best Western Plus Hacienda and Marriott Courtyard in Old Town - prefer the location of the Best Western.

We adore Old Town, never thought about staying there. We stay close to the port so we can visit Old Town the first day and the Gaslamp Quarter the following day. I’ll check out the Best Western. Thanks!

Cheers, Denise

Interesting new itineraries.  Have been trying to book 69 day Australia and 16 days  New Zealand voyages for 2022.  It seems that our mariner/casino discount is not being provided.  I tried without my mariner number and then with it and I get the same price..  Anyone else having this issue or is HAL no longer giving us our casino rates.  We also tried  travelling friends numbers also and same thing.  Also have a question if friends book No advantage rate as they are not interested in the drink package is the deposit paid fully refundable. Any advice would be appreciated.

Casino discounts are still being provided on some sailings.  They are not applicable to every sailing though.  I didn’t get it on one of my Prinsendam sailings in the past and when I asked my TA she explained that the casino discount does not apply to every sailing - especially longer, popular ones.

I never tire of Old Town.  Another area that has become fun is the Liberty Station area further down Harbor Drive toward Point Loma.  They have really developed it in a nice way.  We live in San Diego and enjoy going there for the restaurants and the great walking path that can take you all the way from Point Loma to Downtown, right along the water.  There are several hotels there now -- all fresh and new'ish.  It's a short taxi ride down the street to the ship.

Yes, the deposit is always refundable when you book an Advantage fare.

Thanks Jacqui, makes sense, we must of been lucky in the past as we always had it.  This came as a surprise thought we were doing something wrong.

Some days I see casino discounts.  Other days I don't.  It seems to be spotty.  I imagine a phone call would get them.
