Back to the topic, seems very upbeat and positive.  A couple of random things struck me. Fain seemed very complementary  to the CDC without a trace of animosity. It has always been my completely uneducated opinion that the cruise lines were going to "wait out" the pandemic and the CSO gave them perfect cover.

 

July 4th - I guess I can have my small family gathering on a cruise ship? 😉😇

 

The repeated mentions of masks towards the end was a bit unsettling.  I wonder if he's doing the Old "prepare for the worst while hoping for the best." routine.   Set expectations low so he can exceed them.

Here in UK on the Isle of Man (An island located in the Irish Sea located between Rep of Ireland and Mainland UK). They had reached a place of no mask wearing or social distancing then schools reopened in late feb/early march and they had a surge of cases. There are less than 100k people on Isle of Man and vaccine operations have been ongoing.

IMHO, there is no comparison to a "bubble" of fully vaccinated passengers on a cruise ship and an island of 100,000 people who have not all been vaccinated. That is like comparing apples to oranges.

 

The above comparison does not take into consideration how many of those fully vaccinated people on the cruise ship will disembark and mingle with un-vaccinated people while in port. That is when it gets difficult to assess the outcome.

I believe that cruise lines will wait until the pandemic ends .I agree with you on that.

That's an interesting thought about waiting out the pandemic. Back in April of 2020, I received this email from Club Royale. I remember how excited I was because the casino was extending our tier level for 2 years, which was extraordinary. But maybe it was done because they anticipated back in 2020 that we might not be sailing for two years??????

Any well gathered data is good for the industry to share.  The CDC is responsible for health and can only support fact driven decision making, so any positive news they can add to existing risk models is good news.  Thanks for sharing.

 

Believe it ir not, they want to return to 'normal' just as much as everyone, but with lives in their hands they will err on the side of policies supportable with available data, so it is good for the industry to sponsor efforts to test protocols and honestly report the results.  They will certainly try to avoid 'public opinion' based on media or good news for political gain as their decision criteria.  That kind of decision is not defensible and is usually avoided unless intense political pressure is applied, which hopefully is not happening.  Let disease scientists model the likely outcomes based on data and advise us.  Patience is needed.

 

The lawsuits over deaths, should rushed operatiins occur woukd be much more damaging than a pause, and unethical if made purely for profit, at a calculus of acceptable death rates.  We are increasingly gathering better data, and will be much better armed for decisions soon, but processing mass vaccine impacts takes some time, as did clinical trials of the vaccine.

I don’t know if they are still testing everyone at debarkation but they were.  They are also doing contact tracing so anyone who had contact with someone  affected would be tested. 
 

I know the plan for the new sailings starting in June call for 100% testing of passengers at debarkation.

Not sure if this was touched on in one of the other threads, but any mention of the bracelets for contact tracing on the Bahamas cruises?
