Celebrating my dear Mother's 101 birthday today!  Enjoyed a long weekend in the Valley fo the Sun with some family and a few friends.  Thanks to my baby sister and brother in law for hosting, my older sister for setting up Zoom, the food bringers and bbq-ers and to all who shared their memories, kind words and love with Ruth.  I hope that when I am 101, someone will remember that my middle name is Ruth and bring me a Baby Ruth and of course, a Dalmation

Good morning.  The days are an interesting collection.  Like the quote of the day.  We like pizza and chili dogs, but I'm not sure about chili dog pizza.  We had left over pizza last night, so we will finish the ham, collard greens tonight.  I'll add fried sweet potatoes cooked in the air fryer and wine.

It's been years since I had a screwdriver.  I usually stick to beer and wine, but lately, I seem to prefer wine.

@kazu I always appreciate the lack of pennies when shopping in Canada.  I wish the US would ditch the penny too.

We have been to Nanortalik twice.  The first time was on the Tahitian Princess in 2009 and the second was on the Prinsendam in 2017.  The first time the weather was clear and sunny, but on the Prinsendam there were low clouds and some rain.  It should be easy to tell which cruise the pictures were taken on just by looking at the weather.

This was the village from the ship or the tender.

A few pictures as we walked around.  The buildings in the third picture are part of their museum where you can go through various buildings and can climb to the view platform by the flagpole.  There are stairs on the far side of the big rock.  Their museum was interesting and showed how they lived.

Some overall pictures of the village and area.

A call to a tender port would not be complete without a picture of the Elegant Explorer at anchor.

Good Morning and Thank You for the Daily! ✏️

🤓Beaver Tails (pastry) in Quebec are good. 🙂

Yes, for Greenland but only port stop was Qaqortoq and it took me awhile to pronounce it correctly, LOL ! 🙃

🍻A German flight of beer is great but a 'fruity' beer like Lindeman is a favorite. I'm more of a wine drinker🍷 (Pinot Noir)  Carmel corn is wonderful but gets stuck in the teeth.😁

🙏Prayers for all in need. 🙏

We are driving up to north of Atlanta to visit a about 3 car dealerships.  We have a certain model SUV in mind and don't plan on paying MSRP like some of the dealers think we should.  We hate the traffic up there but will try to get it all in on the same day to get the pain over with.  Should be gone all day.

Have a good day all and wish us luck!

Just a thought- are you a Costco or Auto Club member? We have used their buying services to purchase vehicles in a “no-haggle “ format. I even special ordered my Subi that way, and got a great price. They email you the contact information for the dealers participating, and you talk with only the person who is designated.

We visited Nanortalik in the fall of 2018, onboard the Zuiderdam.

We found it to be a fun and interesting stop. Rather then re-posting pictures and comments, I'll post a link to the review I did of that cruise.

Good morning all!

@Norseh2oHappy birthday to your mom!

I was so happy to see that Nanortalik  is the port of the day.  DH and I will be there next August (2022) on the Nieuw Statendam.  Thanks @Quartzsite Cruiserfor your beautiful pictures - can't wait to visit!

Thanks to all for the uplifting posts.  I definitely hope to meet some or all of you on a cruise in the future!

Enjoy your day (it's beautiful here in NY, and my DS is going to the Yankee game this evening),

Good morning all!

Today is a cloudy, wet day here -- oh well, I enjoyed the past 2 sunny days to the fullest.  Now it's time to get some indoor work done.

I prefer my popcorn plain (butter and salt) but do like caramel popcorn in small amounts.  Will pass on the meal, tonight will be our delayed Easter dinner (ham, potato salad and pickled beets).  DH worked at the Mariners the 2 days after our Easter dinner with DD and DSIL, so our dinner was delayed a few days.

We were in Nanortalik in 2018 with @richwmnon the Voyage of the Vikings on the last Rotterdam. Great cruise!   We enjoyed just walking around the area, taking in the local flavor.  As our Cruise Director said, "Nanortalik is no Las Vegas" 😉  But in our opinion that was a plus.

Here are some photos of our walk.  It was a brisk, cloudy day.

It looks like we are in for a rainy week in St. Paul so I will wait to get the canoe out of storage. Since all our fishing gear is currently inaccessible at our Canadian cottage, I have been shopping for rods, reels, and tackle for use in our local Minnesota lakes. I am looking forward to wetting a line soon!

Tonight, we will try to make a dent in the leftover Easter ham by using some in chef salads. Split pea soup is also on the horizon.

There are some nice crocus blooming in the front garden and we discovered trilliums coming up in the back!

Good morning  everyone  and  thanks  for  the  lists, recipes  and  days. I  noticed increased  beaver  activity in  both  Connecticut  and  Massachusetts on  our  drive  this  weekend. They  are  certainly  productive! We  did  not  stop  at  the  port  during  our  VOV a  while  ago due  to  excessive  wind,I  think. It  would  have  been  better  if  I  had  written  things  down  the  way  others  do. My  once  reliable  memory has  a  few sputters  these  days.

I  will  pass  on  the  recipe today but  would  love  some  of  Roy's  chilled soup  on  a  BHB.As  others  have  said, I  routinely  ordered  most  flavors  on  the  menu. At  home,I  stick  to  hot  soup  as  DH regards  chilled  soup  with  great  alarm.            Terry

We were in Nanortalik on Sept 8th 2012 with the Eurodam on a very ,very eventful Voyage of the Vikings with Captain Darin Bowland , Hotel Manager Stan Kuppens  and cruise director JC !  What a team !!!

Due to multiple hurricanes we had already missed the Shetland Islands because of hurricanes and later on we had to miss St John’s Newfoundland due to hurricanes Leslie  AND Michael  who were predicted to produce 50 foot seas !!! and 80 knot winds so the captain decided for safe passage to go around Nfld between it and Canada’s mainland to outrun these severe storms .

Enough talk I will show some nice pictures of Nanortalik a very nice village with a population of about 1200 and here comes the Eurodam with about 2100 guests ……

A bit on the brisk side this morning for the early dog walk, but it is supposed to start warming up. It will not be too long before I am complaining about the heat.

Was in Nanortalik on the Voyage of the Vikings on the Maasdam in 2010. Captain on that cruise was James Russell-Dunford if any of you remember him. That was my first real  cruise on HAL although I had done a number of north Atlantic crossings on some of the earlier ships. Weather for that cruise was unusually warm and very foggy.... made me glad I was well away from the foghorn. Nanortalik was an interesting stop, one of the two made in Greenland. I would like to go back.... but then I say that about many places.

Good Morning.

Thank you for photos of Nanortalik.

Like @kplady my cousin and I will hopefully visiting here in August 2022.

I look forward to reading about your journey @GeorgeCharlie.

Here is a vignette from the National Film Board of Canada.

My mind keeps remembering another film short about the beaver.  If I find the one I am looking for I will share it.

Ah, buying a car is one of my least favorite things.  The hassle can be exhausting.

Adding my good wishes!  I have  learned to check prices online to get a better idea,  last year we were 1000 apart,  so  I am happily driving my other SUV that I’m still very happy with.  Do check Consumer reports,  we’ve had SUVs forever and our last two top rated have been absolutely trouble free and a joy to drive.

I don’t like Beer either but can enjoy the fruity ones like a Radler!  Have you tried Belgian Kriek?  It’s cherry and quite good,I like Pinot noir too.

Good morning, all, looks like an interesting day.

The first stamp of the Province of Canada in 1851 was of a beaver - if you happen to have a nice unused copy of one, it can be worth up to C$60,000!  (Needless to say, I don't have one, just a picture out of a catalogue.)

IMG_5616.thumb.JPG.b9bf3be0bfadce93ba2b2566a3be7ebf.JPG

I always find it strange that Iceland is green while Greenland is icy.  We have not been to Nanortalik, but  it is in our future plans, as my American cousin with the State Department is now posted to Reykjavik  (she was in Bangkok before and hated the heat..) and we must visit her!  She is there in interesting times, with thousands of earthquakes presaging the eruption!

Other good news here, DS will get his Pfizer next Tuesday,  DD in Gander and her BF have future appointments, and DD here is registered and will find out soon when she will get hers.  Also, big news, with more vaccine coming in, they are hoping everyone will not have to wait 4 months for their second shots.

@Norseh2o Happy 101st birthday to your dear Mother!

Great pictures of Greenland.  Hope to go there someday.  A little cloudy here today but not raining yet.

Will pass on the dinner suggestion.  Enchilada's are on our menu today.

Thanks for all the news.  Happy 101 birthday and great celebrations can happen.  Take care everyone.
