kochleffel Posted May 7, 2021 #58 Share Posted May 7, 2021 Tuba story: Harvey Phillips, a professor of tuba at Indiana University, did a lot to promote his instrument. One year, in an April Fools concert, he and the soprano Eileen Farrell - who had a national radio show in the 1940s, before she moved to the concert and opera stages - performed a duet. She played the tuba and he sang. 8

I like the meal and drinks except for the Gin Fizz. I have been to Beagle Channel. We couldn't dock at Ushuaia due to winds. It's rainy and chilly here again and the rest of the week. Today is also my mother's birthday. She was born in 1904 and has been gone since 1993. She adopted me as a single woman when she was 50 and I was a week old. I still miss her. My CT scan is scheduled for next Wednesday. Thanks @rafinmd Roy for putting me on the care list. I know everyone's getting excited to travel. The past year of trial meds for my eyes has really had an effect on my health. I need to start slowly getting in shape if I hope to travel again. @dfish The Instant Pot is a brand of pressure cooker, but I also slow cook and make yogurt in mine. @StLouisCruisers Praying for your sister. Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celebration list. Stay safe everyone. A couple of pics. Entering the Beagle Channel Italia Glacier Off Ushuaia waiting to see if we can dock Today is my mother’s birthday too. She died in 1998. She was born in 1912.
sailingdutchy Posted May 7, 2021 #62 Share Posted May 7, 2021 As promised a few pics of Cape Horn from the day after we left Tierra del Fuego and the Beagle Channel . The Captain made a few circles at the place where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet . Just to get an idea of what a storm near Cape Horn can do you might have seen the picture of the Argentinian monument for the Ilas Malvinas ( Falklands ) when it was not damaged yet that @StLouisCruisers has shown earlier .......here the picture from after a storm. Also to get a little bit of an idea about a real storm go to YouTube and punch in Storm Cape Horn Cruise MS Veendam ( Dec 12 & 13 2010 ) She , The Veendam needed a new nose after that one ! Argentinian Navy checking up .... Leaving Isla Hornos and Cabo de Hornos ( In Dutch : Kaap Hoorn ) a beautiful sunset …….. These last 3 pictures of the sunset were taken within 10 minutes ! Up to Antarctica what an amazing cruise and what a gorgeous place to visit , one of my all time very favourites ! Tony 😀😀 21

StLouisCruisers Posted May 7, 2021 #66 Share Posted May 7, 2021 I'll do an update on my Sister now that I've finally gotten all the information. It took hours to hear the details. I was told around 1 Eastern she was out of surgery but she had complications and my niece would have to call me back later. My niece hadn't seen her Mom yet, plus she unfortunately had to run over to a different location to see her oncologist for a prior scheduled appointment. Yes, my niece is in treatment for breast cancer, doing well, and her Mom had to undergo this treatment today just to make things more complicated. (She is also the niece who is going to be Grandma to twins this fall). Lucky for my Sister she had two of the finest doctors in this field, in the St. Louis area. The TAVR surgery is supposed to be done while the patient is sedated but not completely out. When they got in through the incision on the R side of the groin, the tube became stuck. Wouldn't go in or out! They said this hadn't ever happened before. So they immediately came up with a plan B. Removed the tube with an incision in her artery, stitched that up, sent another tube in through the L side in a new incision to blow air in and make more space while they tried the R side again. This worked and the stent and valve put in place. It was tested and working properly. To do this expanded procedure she had to be intubated and put out completely. Also drains were put in to drain fluids from the lungs and those will remain in a while. She is in ICU and will be in the hospital until at least Monday. We hope not in ICU the entire rest of her stay so we can phone her when she gets back into a regular hospital room. We always say if there are going to be complications, our sister will be the one having them. Thank goodness I had all of you here sending prayers and good thoughts to her! I appreciate all the posts wishing us well and will now go back and see what's going on with the Daily today. Thanks!! 15

dfish Posted May 7, 2021 #72 Share Posted May 7, 2021 @StLouisCruisers Well, not exactly the way we wanted things to go, but thankfully, she had great surgeons and they were able to complete the procedure successfully. Continued prayers for an uneventful recovery. A friend of mine once told me that I wanted to be incredibly boring medically. So, that is what I'm wishing for your sister.

StLouisCruisers Posted May 7, 2021 #74 Share Posted May 7, 2021 @Copper10-8thanks for posting the video of The Ohio State University marching band performing the Script Ohio at the football game. I'd never seen the entire thing before. My DD got her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from The Ohio State University and loves to watch the band at the football games. They must practice that for hours every week! Such precision! Loved it! @bennybearyou must be referring to having problems with my screen name on CC. There are two of us registered here. My name has no space between Louis and Cruisers. The other person has a space there and is not plural like I am with Cruisers. And the other person has never posted after registering that name, and I believe it was a year after I joined. If you don't see my avatar picture next to the name, it's not me!!😉 I occasionally have a problem with a few poster's names on here, but try to persevere until I find them. @sailingdutchyThank you for the special touch today with your photos. The beautiful sunset photos were much appreciated! Thanks to all of you for your good wishes today. I am so glad to have you all behind me. 14
ger_77 Posted May 7, 2021 #75 Share Posted May 7, 2021 @StLouisCruisers thank you for the update on your sister - and thankfully she had the best working on her. Will continue prayers for an uneventful recuperation for her. @JazzyV Happy Heavenly Birthday to your mom; she was a special person to adopt at her age, and alone, at that. My parents were in their late 40's when they adopted me, so I can identify with the older parent thing. @mamaofami Happy Heavenly Birthday to your mom as well. Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂 Gerry
