I watched a special on that just the other day... It reduces bacterial and microbial growth (and other fouling) that lowers friction / drag. So while cruise ships generally travel at the speed of "comfort," it could allow for increased speed. I think it's much much more about fuel cost savings, which at the scale of a cruise company is pretty significant. The show I watched said it was as much as a 10% increase in efficiency. That would be big $ in savings. 1

That might work for the part of the hull that makes contact with the water, but I doubt enough of the new paint job makes so much contact with the water that it matters. Of course if the paint prevents the growth of little beasties that prevents the ship from looking ratty.
Aplmac Posted August 25, 2021 Author #84 Share Posted August 25, 2021 I'm looking forward to seeing three or four Carnival ships all in a row, at Port of Miami, sporting the new livery. This should be a reality in a few months time. Call it handsome good looks!

evandbob Posted August 31, 2021 #94 Share Posted August 31, 2021 When COVID cancellations began I started a thread about Carnival's rusty ships and the cheap paint jobs on the hulls. . I wondered if the cruise line would use the down time to spiff up the ships' appearance. Most of the replies seemed to think it would be too costly or inconvenient for Carnival to upgrade their product. I'm glad to see the new color and design, and hopefully, less rust!!

Aplmac Posted January 6, 2022 Author #99 Share Posted January 6, 2022 For the last year or so - and as Carnival ships emerge from scheduled dry docking they are significantly transformed by the new livery! Look what the snazzy dark-blue hull did for the frumpy old Fantasy Class! There are knowledgeable folks in here -CC- who follow dry dock schedules. Such info should give us a fair idea of which New Look Carnival Ships to expect next. Anyone know where I can find that dry-docking schedule info?
