I think you are just making stuff up for what you think will happen. I remember when they said the bars & restaurants would go broke if they banned in door smoking, but the opposite happened. More people flocked to the non-smoking venues. Celebrity uses a different business model than Royal and probably relies less on casino income. Of course a nonsmoker who wants a smoke free casino can certainly book Celebrity.

Exactly, and if there are fewer and fewer places for smokers to go some might be more likely stop.

Rare livingonthebeach Posted June 26, 2021 #229 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Glad to see one of the new protocols for FOTS July 2nd sailing out of Miami is only vaccinated passengers will be allowed in the casino. Unvaxxed blowing smoke (if smoking will be allowed - remains to be seen) will not be a concern. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/the-healthy-sail-center/getting-ready-to-cruise?dPort=miami 1

They are definitely trying to get around the Florida rule. 👍🏼

And it's not just who will book Royal but very much will the nonsmokers spend as much money in the casino as the smokers? If that revenue target is missed then they would raise fares to make up the difference. I am willing to put up with smoking in the casino to help keep fares low. Rare BirdTravels Posted June 26, 2021 #232 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Smoking in the casino is not going away any time soon. The casino is big business for the cruise line and, since the start of time, cruise lines have accommodated the smokers based on revenue generated. On some cruises, over 25% of the adult passengers on a ship are guests of the casino sailing in discounted or comped rooms. Some casino guests are sailing on certificates from their land-based casinos. Some are sailing with discounts based on their tier status with their land-based casinos. And the majority are guests of Casino Royale (comped or discounted). So, walking down the halls on a ship, every 4th door is sailing for free or at a discount from the casino. And those casino players are very protective of their casino tier status (which need to be renewed annually) .

Does it mean that every High Roller Casino Gambler smokes? No, not at all. I personally know a few that love to go against the odds spending megabucks and SURPRISE hate cigarette smoke anywhere near them.
davekathy Posted June 26, 2021 #234 Share Posted June 26, 2021 (edited) Smoking isn't allowed in the casinos on RC ships that leave out of the UK and Australia. I would bet those ships casinos are just as busy as the ships casino that allow smoking with non smokers and smokers. Current protocols for the current Freedom cruise. Only those that have been vaccinated are allowed in the casino. 👍 Edited June 26, 2021 by davekathy
BND Posted June 26, 2021 #235 Share Posted June 26, 2021 (edited) Smokers always overestimate how many people actually still smoke and how much more money they spend in the casino. It's been dropping for years and is down to about 15% of the adult population in the US. In the last 10 years, it's dropped from 20%. Very much the minority onboard, especially considering it's 15% of adults. I know plenty of non smokers who don't go into the casino because of the smokers, so I think those numbers of people in the casino wouldn't be impacted overall by banning smoking. I mean, at 15 out of 100 adults smoking, when does it hit the tipping point? I question what is meant by "Celebrity uses a different business model and probably depends less on casino income"? What business model would that be that they would make up that income elsewhere? Also, the casino on X is just as busy as on RCI. There are less children on Celebrity, but beyond that, I know plenty of cruisers who do both RCI and X. There are less smokers on X, that we did notice. And, yes, having been on 28 cruises, I see a lot more smokers just hanging out in the casino smoking than I do gambling. So, that argument that smokers gamble more doesn't hold any water with me. FamilyCruiserUK Posted June 26, 2021 #236 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Has anyone actually thought about the staff and their health. Smoking is a dying art and i am so flad the uk band smoking indoors. Granted everyone has the right to smoke but that right should end where it affects others.

They charge more for the cruise and rely on other departments to make up the difference, that's what "different business model" means.
