My take on staycation cruising with covid restrictions

Just wondering how we would find a staycation cruise. Love sea days. Love cruising close to land (bins to see landmarks etc.) Not too bothered about using the buffet but like deck quoits, shuffleboard, table tennis, short tennis etc. & the pool. In the evening we quite like the shows and syndicate quiz. Generally go ballroom dancing ( prefer a band rather than recorded music.) Don’t think we’ve ever watched a film in our cabin (oops, stateroom.)

Will we find many of our chosen activities still on?

Most activities are still going on. Our cabin was on the starboard side, so nice views of the coast going and sitting on the balcony in the afternoon sun coming home  dolphin spotting was very pleasant, we even spotted a couple of blue sharks. Covid protocols worked well, even a little bit OTT, but fine. The app didn't work on my android phone, but worked ok on DW's iPhone. 2 weeks we can go again,, this time for 4 nights. Much better than no cruise at all. Most folk seemed to enjoy it. Hopefully things will get more normal soon. Nothing negative really. Lots of happy smiley crew. We didn't get to see Toyah Willcox, but hey ho !.

Anyone who has sailed on one of the Seacations, do you know the latest you can disembark? My train home is at 11:27 so I don't wanna be sitting around in Southampton TOO long 🙂

We were amongst the last off. That was about 9.30.

When we were on Britannia last week we didn't see deck quoits, shuffleboard or table tennis being played at all.

From memory (not our thing) dancing was advertised as 'to a CD'.

Never heard of deck quoits. Sounds posh! Haha

Just cam off today, and definitely there were people playing table tennis and shuffleboard.  You just asked at the desk by the pools on the Lido deck.

Blimey - how can you not have seen it. Do you never walk around the prom deck?

People take it far too seriously as Britboys said.

I’ve never sailed P&O before.

Princess, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean all have deck games. You may know them as shuffleboard where you use a long stick and a wooden puck, but they also have "quoits", which can be little weighted bags  or knotted rope rings, which are thrown underhand onto the same sort of grid painted on the deck.

But I would pay extra to watch wowzz chew his arm off.😉

Never played a deck game, but played a few games of Bocce on the Lawn Club of a few Celebrity Solstice class ships!

Does anyone know if they are still doing the archery competitions on P&O? Hoping they could be sanitised fairly easily?

On other lines - particularly non-British ones - shuffleboard is much more commonly seen than quoits.

Yes, we were doing laps around the Arena on Britannia and this was taking place.  Need to sign up as spaces are limited.

For those who have been in the casino or walked through it, how do they social distance on the tables?  Do we wear masks at the card tables?

Good question, handling cards and casino chips is also a powerful source of cross contamination. OK maybe not as much for COVID as Norovirus.

I am hoping to get in a few hours of Blackjack on my cruise and have not played since January 2020.
