Why not try taking a snare, tom toms or if it must be a kettle, the ones painters and decorators use are acceptable to Princess.

Is there any difference in 220V vs. 110 V kettles regarding the potential fire hazard. What is used on the ships? Do kettles have any effect on the floating ground system, like showing false readings?

 

Other comment.

For those that have no use for a kettle, like us, they would occupy some of the limited counter top space in the cabin. Seems if they are to be available it should be on request, not universal. Another MC addition?

The question was clear from the start, if the OP was accepting of  the clear answer as it pertains to ships sailing out of the US he would not have persisited for four pages.

The only "Navy" ships I have been on was to visit.

Nah... the four pages was mostly people having fun, from all nations with different levels of importance on their tea!

 

Which Navy ships have you visited? I have only been on one battleship, the USS Iowa currently in Long Beach.  Apologies to the OP for the minor tangent.

If your going to bring one, bring one with a detachable cord. Pack your cord in your companions luggage apart from the kettle itself.  Nobody will be the wiser. Then when enjoying your tea on the balcony you can giggle and reflect on just the rebel you are.  Have a great cruise!

It's not just Europe that has kettles...  We first experienced one in our hotel in China!  That said, there are no "Hobs" in cruise cabins so where is the fire hazard?

 

I think the REAL reason you won't see them often in mainstream cruise lines out of the USA is:  marketing.  The more time we spend out of our cabins, the more the cruise line can potentially add to their revenue.

 

Las Vegas is a perfect example of this kind of marketing strategy.  It's a science (of sorts).  The City has an ordinance banning coffee makers in hotel rooms for sanitation reasons.  Not true, they want you in the Casino getting your "free" coffee - potentially spending more money in the Casino.  Also, have you ever noticed that there are NO benches or other seating along the strip or around their outdoor entertainment features?  It's because they know people eventually need to sit down and will be forced to return to the Casino for that relief.

 

On a cruise ship, if you have to go out to get coffee, you may buy a fancy coffee or a cocktail for walk by a store and see something you want to purchase...   walk by the Future cruise desk and book a cruise... or the Excursion desk and book an excursion... or the Specialty dinning room and make a reservation...  You get the idea....  You probably can think of more things than I just did!  Ha!

Did not even think of this but I suspect you are spot on!  Money talks, doesn't it?  If I'm making coffee in my room then I am NOT buying a coffee at the specialty coffee bar where they've installed expensive espresso machines!  We need to get the customer out of the cabin!

LOL - Kettles are not a fire hazard.  They're a profit hazard!!!!! 

I think I'll start a thread about how to get permission to bring a couple of my well-trained flying monkeys on the cruise.  I'll put a saddle bag on them and send them down to the coffee bar to get my morning coffee for me.  PROBLEM SOLVED!

You really need to sail NCL, we had an espresso machine in each of our rooms.
