Hello!

I have a question. I know someone mentioned that the Gong Cafe was removed. But is Crooners and the Bellini Bar still there?

Yes gun cafe is no more they just replaced it with what's on every other royal class ship by princess live which is a coffee bar similar to what you get done at international cafe so those are specialty that you do pay for. You can of course order any other regular bar drink as well there.

Crooners AKA VIP gaming room which is located on Deck 6 is really kind of more of an empty room that's not a functioning room being used for anything. It's more like a high rollers casino room. Great place to hang out if you're looking for a quiet relaxing spot to read or do any work. The bar is not in use, there's no staff working in there.

No Bellinis. On Deck six you do have the good spirits bar. That's a great bar if you're looking for fun create a little cocktails where they play videos too help immerse you at the destination that compliments your drink.

Is DMV anytime?  What about traditional dining?

DMV is the app everybody has to use in order to make reservations whether it's a specialty dealing room or just the main dining room. They seem to have done away really with traditional dining. We're in the past you had a choice traditional dining and then if you want it early or late seating. Or if you preferred anytime dining.

The app now wants to get an idea of when you'll be in the dining room so you can either book a dining room and time for the whole length of the cruise or you can select different times you want to eat daily maybe to accommodate a day you have short excursions and you can change the dining room.

They no longer use the term traditional dining. The only way you can pretty much get the same table or waiter it's just kind of by requesting which I did on the first night and said you'd like to stay at this table or with this waiter.

Through observations throughout the week and towards the end of the cruise as mentioned by the OP here that I believe like she saying you're kind of automatically stuck at that table if you have the same time and dining room reserved nightly. Because you have to scan your medallion each night you enter the main dining room and your table number pops up on their little device.

I personally for one just wish there was a selection traditional dining and here is the time I'd like to eat. I always say no need to overcomplicate anything. I found it originally a little bit nerve-racking that it shouldn't be an issue to request the same table and wait for the entire length of my journey. My sweet waiter had to ask several people a few times to confirm that they can indeed accommodate me.

That was a huge Plus for princesses that they had the option between anytime in traditional dining. Where so many cruise lines in the industries are doing more the anytime dining and doing away with the traditional and that was something princess always stood by. I do hope that they bring it back to in its entirety.

What is the the explanation for the surcharge for all the vegetarian options?

Is the charge just listed on the Ocean Concierge or on the main menus in the dining room as well?

Has an explanation been offered?

Could someone please confirm?

Thank You,

Jamie

I notice on both the lunch and dinner menus you posted on your blog that there is a $4 charge for ordering a vegetarian item, even a plate of French fries.

To me that is a new low in customer service by Princess.

I think that was a little (v) next to the dishes you saw. For vegetarian, perhaps? I saw no mention of a $4 charge. Look again.

There are NO surcharges for vegetarian dishes anywhere in the menu.

WHAT?!?! Ok. (Telling myself to simmer down). There isn't a charge in MDR but apparently a surcharge in MC? Guess who won't be ordering in the app 😕

It's not the $4, its the unequal treatment

Mind blown 🤯. Well I can definitely confirm and verify that on the actual paper menus there are no charges and I just went back relooked at all the menus I took pictures of from last week's Cruise. So incredibly strange.

So I didn't just miss it .... MDR is fine, it's just room service. If I cannot take a meal from MDR I'll just frequent IC for  breakfast and lunch. There's always a work-around

I figured that may be the case.

I'll just eat in the MDR and not worry about ordering off of the App.

Maybe it's a typo. This needs clarification from Princess. The fact that they're all $4 is just weird. Having been in tech for longer than I care to admit, I would guess it could be a mistake, because $4 for a plate of fries definitely sounds like a mistake.

I'd definitely go with it was a technical error. I mean we have all seen how glitchy the pass has been, and the issues that arised throughout the tech rollout.

How I look at it is, you'll get served quicker by going to the MDR vs room service. 😉

WOW.  I am totally disappointed...well more than disappointed.  Are you saying there is no traditional dining room separate from anytime?  When I booked our cruise it asked if we wanted traditional and first or second seating.

The menus I am posting mostly come from the Majestic.Princess.com website (once I was told about finding them there, thanks for that!) simply because it’s easier than trying to photo scan the paper copy. I noticed the $4, but really think it is a typo. It’s a curious thing, to be sure, but there’s a lot of curious things going on with the app and online website.

Mellon1, I’m sorry to hear that you went through that on a cruise, especially if you were in a suite. I’m also sorry because that was really our only remaining recourse, to talk to Neville. It may not be worth the time to seek him out. Our dining room experience was always the single biggest part of the cruise for us; we appreciated the service we received, we were always there and we tipped very well. Maitre d’s, especially those who knew how we felt about it, always did their very best to accommodate us.  Now we are a number, and are nightly trying to improve our assigned dining situation by getting a table that someone else has cancelled. We can’t even get a no show’s table…DMW won’t let anyone else have it. It’s crazy.

My DH and I were just talking the other day how they were going to handle the increases in food costs.  3 weeks ago I went to the store to get filets and they were $47 a pound!!!  I could not believe it.  We thought smaller portions, but not charging for veggies and fries.  It almost sounds like they want people to go to the buffet?  What happens if you ask for another scoop of something?  Extra charge at buffet?

If the veggie burgers are still the same as in the past, Princess should be paying $4.00.

Just checked with my TA.  There is no traditional dining in the MDR anymore.  She said she only found out about it when she was booking people and could not select it.

Very sad we enjoyed getting to know our waiters and not having to repeat our likes or dislikes over and over again.  All the ones we have had after 1st night knew our one friend always had a coke at dinner me an iced tea, knew I didn't like tomatoes or onions and would let me know if I was about to order something that had those hidden in there or if I opted for the burger that night knew not to add those items to it.  We will miss that intimate touch on our vacations.

Same for us.  It is the highlight of the cruise.

I feel terrible for you guys.  To be a number after all the money and time you have given Princess.  I wonder what we will be as we have only cruised less than half the time you have.  We will probably be a blip.

I also am highly allergic to shellfish, so I have to have someone who is very careful.  Just spoke with my TA and she said there is no more traditional dining room or set time and table like before, all in the app.  She said she would think if Princess got enough complaints, something would have to be done.  I am so afraid to tell my husband about this issue as he will say that is the last straw.  Everything we love about cruising Princess has seemed to be taken away.  I cannot eat at the buffet as if someone even touches a spoon and I do, I am contaminated and puff up.  Yeah, no facial recognition there for sure!

Can anyone tell me how the DMW works with food allergies? My allergy isn't listed on the app. My preference is (vegetarian) but not my allergy. In the past, my waiter would even make a much appreciated joke about it (its not funny but levity helps) but now that I'll have a new waiter all the time .....

Hi Linda!  Luisa is onboard for the VIP event. I don’t recognize the other hosts. They have added a live craps table and now have draw poker machines but no PokerPro or similar machines to Henry’s chagrin. We were kind of hoping they would add one but nope. Tonight being formal night it was no smoking so I was hoping the machines would be kind but no luck so we moved on.

Thanks.  Those darn machines just keep calling me back though.  We'll be there for Halloween VIP casino cruise.  Happy sailing.
