The above mentioned buses (or land taxis) can easily get you to the transportation hub at Piazzale Roma. But that’s as far on to the islands of Venice that you can go using wheeled transportation. If you are headed to a hotel near there, you may be fine. But if you need to go elsewhere in the city, you will need to transfer to a public boat bus (called a vaporetto) or a private water taxi. You could also take a private water taxi or public boat bus from the airport. Best method depends on where you need to go and how much you’re willing to spend. It also depends on how many of you and your ability to handle your luggage. Venice is filled with pedestrian bridges that go up and over canals. Thank you for reply. On other occasions we have got into a regular taxi to the main hub of Piazzale Roma and stayed in a nearby hotel or got onto the People mover(Train) to the cruise terminal a short distance away. Now Venice has banned cruise ships over 25,000 tons you will have to go to Ravenna which can take up to 4 hours by coach because of volume of traffic and road conditions. Many thanks. Yes i was told by Royal Caribbean it is $74 for the shittle from marco Polo airport to Raveena.!

When we were there (and we also sent there family and friends), they made a 10% reduction if you paid cash. Since we pay a lot of commissions in Israel when using foreign currency by cc, worked excellent for us, as we usually travel with some cash.... If you travel by Alilaguna Blu (highly recommended since you get a nice view of Venice by the water), there is no bridge and no stairs from the San Zaccaria stop, just 3 mins easy walk. We ate at an restaurant just opposite the hotel entrance, pizza. It was OK (pic below). We found that almost all restaurants around St. Marco are tourist traps, so we just eat "something" to get by.... OTOH, we splurged for an excellent chestnut ice cream at Caffe Florian in the Square, for people watching. Worth doing it at least once 😁 Nice photo Dani and lovely looking Pizza's.

You can't take a train from the airport 🙄 It's very nice to arrive by boat but much more costly. The bus is easy and cheap.

There was a time when we enjoyed people watching in S. Marco for free, just sitting on the stairs, leaning on a column, etc. Last time we were there (2014), there was a "sitting police" patrolling constantly -- you're not allowed to sit anywhere in the square and surroundings.... Only in coffee shops 🤨

You might ask RCI if the shuttle makes any stops , such as Venice ( Piazzale Roma) or Mestre since you are spending a few days in Venice pre-cruise. Otherwise you will need to make a return trip to the airport to catch the shuttle. I'm sure many people will be in the same situation. Perhaps these logistics are something the cruiselines will fine-tune over the next few months.

Had to go back to the airport to pick the bus up
