Knickearth Posted August 23, 2021 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2021 I keep reading about the vaccinations, the boosters, the pre cruise testing and post cruise testing and the wearing of masks while on the ships -so my question is how is the atmosphere onboard the ships? Are people staying away from others? Is everyone still enjoying themselves? Are all the normal activities still taking place. How are the excursions being handled? How is the dining being handled. If I can't have fun, it ain't worth the cruise. Just curious and interested in hearing from those who have already started to cruise. GJCruiser Posted August 23, 2021 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2021 Read the Live From threads that have been very extensive for the first cruises. Lots of information.
Esprit Posted August 23, 2021 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2021 On our Celebrity Silhouette cruise around the UK it felt almost normal. All crew wore masks 24/7 which you got so used to seeing I stopped noticing. The bars were busy for pre dinner drinks with no noticeable social distancing. We just chatted with anyone nearby. It was easy to forget to put your mask back on though when you went off to the bathroom. No group tables in the MDR unless you were in the same bubble. People were spaced away from each other too. As the ship did not have a full complement of crew, passenger numbers were limited to 1,000. Loads of spare seats around the ship but it never felt deserted. The last night extravaganza in the Grand Foyer was pretty amazing. The entertainers lead by the CD did a fantastic job and a great end to our 6 night cruise.
jbhermes Posted August 24, 2021 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2021 Honestly the mask mandate on our August 8 Alaskan cruise didn’t phase us. We still met many wonderful people in the dining rooms (even if you sit at a table for 2, there’s another table for 2 RIGHT next to you that makes it feel like a table for 4 lol). Masks were worn in the casino, the Princess theater, the entryways to dining rooms, etc but it wasn’t an issue and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves in a normal fashion!

All cruise lines are in the same boat with masking ☺️ so it’s responsive to the OPs question about the environment on a ship with people wearing masks. Rare geoherb Posted August 24, 2021 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2021 I'm currently on the Majestic and have a live thread going. People are wearing masks while walking around in public areas. Once seated, they take their masks off to eat and drink. They are wearing them in the theater, Princess Live, and Vista Lounge. We are still sharing tables if we want for breakfast and lunch in the dining room. So far, I have not shared a table at dinner, but the tables are close enough to talk to others. The ship is not very full. It will be interesting to hear the actual number of passengers Thursday night at the Captain's Circle party. Knowing that everyone is vaccinated and was tested within three days of our cruise does give me some peace of mind. But then I wonder if people could have contracted the virus after their tests and unknowingly brought it on board. I've noticed a section of the Dolphin Deck that's blocked off. Someone said that's where they will quarantine anyone who develops Covid during the cruise. It's on the opposite side of the ship from my cabin, and I have not seen anyone going through the fire doors. There may be a crew stairwell that they use to access it if there are any people currently there. I was quarantined on my December 2019 cruise, so I know the feeling. Rare Ombud Posted August 24, 2021 #10 Share Posted August 24, 2021 I just got home 2 days ago. The only problem was that it was too short. Jasper (Hotel GM) said I could stay on (book online at reduced price) but I only had a dog sitter for 1 week, so I had to leave. Can hardly wait until I get back on December 8th to the hotel December 9th to Emerald Princess!!!!
