Bizarre. The minimum is reduced, but agree you are ultimately bidding against everyone else bidding. But the maximum was also reduced, so I guess it could make a difference, especially if you are one who bids in the higher range.

Perhaps it’s too soon to try. Thanks for your help. Tom😀 Hi Tom, we’re on the 2/6/23 Getaway sailing as well. I believe bidding doesn’t start until after final payment is due. That’s 10/9/22 for us. We’re already booked in a Haven Spa Suite so I’m not sure if we will bid on anything since we’ll have to pay for spa access if we upgrade. Happy Sailing! spanishguy1970 Posted July 15, 2022 #1706 Share Posted July 15, 2022 I just received the upgrade email. We just bid for the Spa Balcony, Spa Club suite and or Haven spa suite...our bids are low to fair. Our bids have never been accepted in the past, LOL. Let's hope this time is different. Would you mind sharing the bid range you had when you won the last two? I've yet to win a Haven bid, but I've paid for it and now I want it again, lol. I have my bids in the high fair to low good range right now for a Sept. sailing on the Joy. Good luck with your Getaway bid, we were in the Haven on Getaway's transatlantic in December and it was amazing.

My current bids for my cruise in September are the same. I have noticed if you dont mind which haven suite you get, bidding a little stonger on the forward facing suites you have a better shot in getting as they are outside the Haven and do have a very small balcony.

We're on the Getaway on 10/22. I'm also curious how many cabins like ours (club balcony w/large balcony) are available, since our potential upgrade means a cascade of upgrades behind us. Thank you! I simply do a mock booking for a Haven suite, then during the booking it will have a chnage my cabin option, after pressing this it will allow you to go deck by deck and it will show all cabins that are available to book

Dcoy Posted July 15, 2022 #1713 Share Posted July 15, 2022 Say I paid for insurance during my original booking and now I win an upgrade for $2,000 more. Now I have to cancel cruise due to some insurance covered reason. Does the insurance only cover my original amount and I’m out the additional 2K? I know I’m probably over thinking this but during my working years, I was paid to think of out of the ordinary situations.

I'm assuming the insurance should cover what you actually paid, seems pretty cheap for NCL to stiff you out of money for an upgrade you couldn't use. You should call though to confirm you'll get a full credit.
deelightfull Posted July 15, 2022 #1715 Share Posted July 15, 2022 All of the "winning" bids I've seen are within three days of sailing, so right now your window of that sort of risk is small (though not non-existent). Check your insurance, do they convert upgrades? Do they explicitly NOT cover upgrades? Would the cost of the upgrade exceed your total coverage? This is from NCL's website Upgrade Advantage FAQ: "What happens if I purchased travel protection? If you have Norwegian's Travel Protection on your current booking, you will be automatically charged to cover the upgrade cost. If you have travel protection via your travel professional, please contact them to add your upgrade to your coverage."

pantherpaw Posted July 16, 2022 #1718 Share Posted July 16, 2022 We will be boarding the Dawn for a Baltics cruise on Wed, 7/20. I just logged into NCL and I see we've been upgraded from an ocean view on the deck 5 to a balcony on the deck 10, in a great location. I put in the minimum bid.

GALSews Posted July 17, 2022 #1720 Share Posted July 17, 2022 I was interested in seeing if we would get a bid. We'd exchanged a time share week through the time share brokerage. The cruise specialist for them said that by using an exchange for payment we were unlikely to get a bid offer. However, if we just used their group as a travel agency (no time share exchange) she thought it would be possible to get an offer to bid. Anyway, I thought the bid offers went out at 110 days, but I guess it is up to 110 days out as today (day 109 ), we did receive an offer to bid. We won't bidding this time, but it is nice to know if we want to exchange our time share week for a cruise, we could still be eligible to receive a bid. Finally, the bid offer I really want is for the Prima in June. We booked over a year ago, The prices have never been as low as then and they were doing 2 extra points per day at the time we booked, so the only way I am upgrading is with a bid. Good luck to those bidding.
Colleen73 Posted July 18, 2022 #1721 Share Posted July 18, 2022 I am new at this whole bidding process.. say I put a bid for 130 pp for an upgrade to a club balcony suite.. is it worth it?… charged 130 pp which would be 2600 additional ?

I hope you had a typo and you meant to type $260. It’s up to you on if it’s worth it. Do a test booking to see what that type of room is going for currently. Compare that to the price you paid for your current cabin. If it’s greater than $260, it’s a good deal.

deelightfull Posted July 18, 2022 #1724 Share Posted July 18, 2022 Speaking of which, we just (47 hours before cruising) had our bid accepted for Wednesday's cruise. Of the three bids we put in, they took the biggest bid for the nicest room, club balcony suite, $260 bid ($520 total) to upgrade from an inside room. If it wasn't the lowest bid possible, it was close! I know other people on our ship for our cruise dates started getting bids accepted on Friday, and here we are Monday! It's my (totally unsupported) hypothesis that since we were upgrading from an inside room, we were last, because there's no way they're getting anyone else for that room we're leaving behind. 🤣 We've also heard rumors this ship is going to be pretty empty, so maybe enough rooms for whoever is willing to pay. Ultimately though, who knows what computers do and why they do it. 🤷♀️

I have been looking at my cruise for September 29th for the Getaway and as of today there are 30 Haven Suites still available less then 75 days out. If I see a big price drop (as of today cheapest was $3129 PP, las cruise I bought a Haven suite for $1899) I will simply upgrade normally.
