Do they have (live at) the same address? If not her new friend doesn't get to play diamond.

My "friend" is riding on my Diamond coattails as I like to call it. He loves every minute of his instant status! LOL (My friend has the same address.)

It's easy to link someone to your account and status (there is no verification of address), much more difficult to unlink. Beware who you let ride on your coattails. There was a case in a divorce situation where the ex-wife was the one who had the status and tried to unlink her ex-husband post divorce, to no avail.

The previously linked person will likely eventually unlink after the new person is linked (the same is true for kids) - but it may take a while.

That’s only if she finds a new partner to link — if she doesn’t, he stays on her account and enjoys her C & A status.

Find a "new partner" to link, then unlink them.
