A bitter pill (guess I should have done my research)!

Many months ago Carnival cancelled our Mardi Gras sailing for early this year. Shortly thereafter, I booked the 12/3 Liberty. On that sailing I would be able to enjoy a $600 OBC in compensation for our cancelled MG booking.

We've since sailed on the MG, and booked again for this Thanksgiving.

Just recently Carnival cancelled the 3 night Liberty sailing. As a result of this, I'll have $300 OBC to use down the road. When I made an inquiry as to if the original $600 OBC could now be moved to our upcoming MG sailing, I was told that the OBC I'm entitled to will be determined by my most recent cancelled cruise.

I had a good feeling that the Liberty would be cancelled, but was not aware that I should move the $600 OBC prior them pulling the plug. I asked the PVP if I had moved it, and he indicated it would have stayed at the $600 level. Though...I'm not sure if he understood what I was asking (I knew it was too late already), but it seemed pretty clear to me... by having multiple bookings, I gave myself more chances of getting the shaft!

Is this the way the "system" works at this point?

Sorry Tom, but it's a lesson learned for you.  If you had requested that the 600 be transferred to your Thanksgiving booking before the Liberty canceled, then I believe  that you would not have lost the 300 difference. If people have multiple cancellations they do not stack together and the most recent one takes presidence.

Can someone request a $600 OBC for a canceled cruise be moved to a reservation other than the rebooking of the canceled cruise? We have a MG cruise next April that was a rebooking. The new cruise is a casino cruise so it already came with $ 200 OBC,now we have $800. We have a b2b on the Pride in May/June in Europe and I much prefer using the $600 on that cruise for land excursions. I should have thought it out more clearly and used the pending cancelled cruise credit for the Europe sailing.

Same thing happened to us.  We had transferred $600 to our April (2021) Mardi Gras cruise from another one that was cancelled last year.  We ended up losing that $600.  We waited until cruising had started back to apply $300 to our September cruise on the Sunrise and $600 (from April's Mardi Gras cruise) to next April.  Had we waited until closer to time, we would have had another $600 for our Vista cruise next year.

Been there done that and said duh to myself. I should have figured it out sooner. Now I just get 300 obc. Tbh I asked for a refund. I only have the one 600 obc.

I think you cruise more than me on carnival so 300 obc might be worth juggling but wasnt for me. But that has been the policy since covid started. The obc is determined by the latest cruise that was cancelled. .. and yes I had some with 600 obc cancelled moved to 5 days cancelled so offered 300.

I'm to where unless the cruise is almost free not going to book more carnival. Too many offers going out almost free to others. If I'm not favored, I like rcl too. Hearing about cuts to buffet doesnt help.

But it's always been based on the length of the cruise cancelled. I had to take a rock to the head myself and I'm not booking nice cabins like you.

I had 4 covid canceled cruises & one of them included a Mardi Gras "not ready in time" specific FCC. I did not move any of my credits. I continued to book future cruises, but left my covid cancels unapplied to a specific booking. Once ships started sailing, I got with my PVP, and applied those credits/deposits & OBC to my 5 bookings.

TAs are awesome & had used one for past couple of years. But when covid hit I decided it was best to deal directly with a Carnival PVP. The way she handled, & advised me to hold instead of apply at booking, all my canceled cruise/obc was AWESOME. I was able to retain & maximize all my credits.

Consider yourself lucky...We were booked on the 9/5 and 9/12 sailings of the Glory out of NOLA and both cruises were cancelled.  The 9/5 cruise was cancelled due to Hurricane Ida and the 9/12 was cancelled due to the Glory being chartered by FEMA....and I understand the need to cancel both cruises.

However, we weren't offered anything...no $300, no $600...zilch!  Basically, we got a "Sorry!" and that was it.  Hoping we get to go on the 9/19 sailing, but I'm not holding my breath.

Sorry this is all a little confusing to me but I have a 8 day cruise booked for Christmas week and applied my $600 credit to that cruise. I was now looking to also book a 5 day cruise Thanksgiving (before my Christmas cruise). Would that affect my Christmas $600 cruise credit? Also is there a way to use the credit to purchase the drink package before the cruise?

OP thanks for the post and sorry you got shafted.

No effect now that your xmas cruise has the 600.

Cant use obc until you are onboard, unlike rcl. ..then it's a mad scramble lol.

We considered it, but since we were driving from North Georgia (about 6.5 hours to NOLA), the additional mileage to Galveston would have made about a 11-12 hour drive one way....which is too far for my wife.  ...and unfortunately, booking late airfare was prohibitive relative to cost.

At the start of the pandemic, I had a cruise booked that was cancelled. I was a solo traveler so my on board credit was $600 for my next cruise. I rebooked the cruise and then my sister wanted to go also, so I added her to the booking. Of course that cruise was canceled too. So I rebooked but now my sister didn't want to go. I only received back $300 in credit instead of my original $600,. When I added my sister to my booking, Carnival gave her half of the credit. When it was cancelled again, she got to keep that credit. Talk about feeling screwed. The PVP suggested I ask my sister for the $300. 😡

Your sister can buy you $300 in Carnival Cash or a $300 Carnival or Visa Gift Card😁 what a lame answer  by your PVP😡. Better yet ask your PVP for $300 or you will report the loss of $300.

Carnival cancelled the cruise your sister does not want to go. That $300 is yours because of the Public Health Emergency
