Good morning everyone and thanks for the daily report.  I encountered an outdoor naturalization ceremony at the federal courthouse this summer, very moving.  The constitution is an amazing document that has withstood a lot.  Apple dumpling day, perfect!  I guess today’s quote is one way to view things although I beg to differ.  The meal suggestion sounds very good.  San Diego is a wonderful city, one of my best friends lives there as well.  Prayers for all on our prayer list today and cheers to everyone celebrating a happy event.

Thank you for the TGIF Daily, Rich.  Love Apple Dumplings and Salute Citizenship and the Constitution.  I love the Heyerdahl quote but will pass on the Cod.  I think of San Diego primarily as my Nephew's city.

We’ve sailed out of San Diego once and once was enough with the mess embarkation was.  I hear it’s improved since which is a good thing.  The city itself is a great place to visit and explore 👍

We could use a lot more of good citizenship. The constitution is an amazing document. Unfortunately, most people don't really understand it.

The dinner and drink are winners.

We've been to San Diego several times to embark for cruises.We stayed at a Holiday Inn by the port. We, literally, walked across the street with our luggage to board the ship.

It looks like we have hit the peak here in covid hospitalizations and we are now on a downward trend.

This is my half way point. 😎Tonight friends and I are eating dinner at a great local breakfast/lunch place that offers a limited menu dinner once a month. They just started doing this, so I am hoping their offerings are as good as their breakfast & lunch meals. 

I need to look for my San Diego pics. My last cruise sailed out from there, but I have been there many times for work. A wonderful city.

Herdade do Esporão 2018 Esporão Private Selection Sémillon (Alentejano) Portugal

This wine sounds very interesting, but finding it might be difficult. Neither of my go-to sites had the 2018 - at least not by this specific name. Wine Enthusiast provided a $30.00 link that took me nowhere. But you might be lucky to find it locally. Or try it the next time you’re in Portugal.

This wine was created in 2001 with the intent to challenge the classic profile of great Alentejo wines. The maturity of the vineyard, the underestimated Semillon grape variety and the careful selection of barrel suppliers, have enabled us to build this wine’s solid, rich and complex character.

AGRICULTURE

After a dry and cold winter, an early rainy spring followed restoring soil moisture levels suitable for the beginning of the vegetative cycle. The fact that spring temperatures and even mid-summer temperatures were milder than in previous years led to a delay of the cycle but allowed for good plant development. In early August, a heatwave of five consecutive days, with temperatures exceeding 43 degrees and accompanied by strong gusts of wind, caused severe damage in varieties more sensitive to this type of conditions, leading to production losses. However, in most of our vineyards, where grape varieties are better adapted to these events, maturation occurred slowly and regularly thus preserving the freshness and aromatic intensity of white wines and the texture, concentration and complexity of red wines.

Predominantly clay, deep and well drained, ideal for balanced production, aromatic development and to preserve freshness.

VINIFICATION / MATURATION

The grapes were delivered to the winery in the morning, when temperatures are at their lowest, and were placed in the pneumatic press. Long pressing cycles at low pressure enabled careful extraction for a rich must. Decanting was shorter than usual, which helped maintain the complexity of the medium. Fermentation took place in new French oak barrels (550 liters) in a temperature-controlled cellar (18ºC).

On the lees with batonnage to provide better oak integration in the wine, thereby reinforcing the creamy texture and depth. After bottling, the wine aged 6 months in the bottle, ensuring controlled maturation and giving the wine the complexity that characterizes it.

In 2001, Esporão Private Selection White was produced, which was designed to challenge the classic profile of great wines from the Alentejo.

Its solid structure, personality and complexity are the result of climactic conditions, the selection of the finest grapes from our terroir and our winemakers’ creativity. These are exclusive wines, made in small quantities for intense and intimate moments.

Every year we invite an artist to illustrate its labels, thus combining the Portuguese culture of winemaking with art.

Mint Julep:

Mint julep is a mixed alcoholic drink, or cocktail, consisting primarily of bourbon, sugar, water, crushed or shaved ice, and fresh mint. As a bourbon-based cocktail, it is associated with the American South and the cuisine of the Southern United States in general, and the Kentucky Derby in particular. Wikipedia
Main alcohol: Bourbon whiskey
Ingredients: 1 teaspoon Powdered sugar, 2 oz. Bourbon whiskey, 2 teaspoons Water, 4 Mint leaves
Preparation: In a highball glass gently muddle the mint, sugar and water. Fill the glass with cracked ice, add Bourbon and stir well until the glass is well frosted. Garnish with a mint sprig.
Served: On the rocks; poured over ice
Standard garnish: Mint sprig
Drinkware: Highball glass

Good morning all!

 

Waking up to 64 degrees and sunny. ☀️
 

I once had the honor of sitting alongside the Mississippi watching a group of new citizens take their oath on the steps of the Gateway Arch. Very moving. And I suspect they knew the Constitution a lot better than most, the citizenship test is not easy.  I’ll skip apple dumpling day, not a favorite dessert. 
 

Cod is okay, the wine has possibilities, but I’d be a disappointment at the Kentucky Derby, I don’t care for mint juleps (although I’d love wearing a fancy hat).

 

I guess for Heyerdahl, sailing a handmade raft in the Pacific was simple, however I prefer the “progress” of a cruise ship.

 

My last time in San Diego was getting off a cruise ship in the rain and having two cabbies argue which of them got us as passengers 🤦‍♀️💦. I do love San Diego weather normally. Favorite experience was leaving biggest snow ever in St Louis for a day of sunny skies, 72 degrees and beautiful flowers in San Diego, great trade off.

 

Prayers for all on our cares list 🙏. (A good friend posted a lovely picture from her dog walk yesterday; less than an hour later she posted a pic from the hospital. She slipped on fresh mown grass and broke her wrist in two places 😱) Even with trip cancellations and other disappointments we still have a lot to celebrate 🍷.

Good morning all and thanks for our TGIF Daily!  A nice group of days today.  I would especially like to honor the Constitution today.  The quote?  Too complicated!  Cod is best to me as Fish and Chips.  

 

We missed the gym yesterday due to rain so did our treadmill.  But today we walked over and back in a slight mist.  Nothing on radar as rain, just low clouds I guess.  Not a lot of muscle aches left so I need to up the weights.

 

Thanks @rafinmdfor keeping up with the lists today.  Good luck on the road today.  Stay safe!  I thought today's sunrise photo was one of your best because of the promenade deck prominently placed.  Very pretty!  Prayers for all our friends on the Care list.  Cheers for those enjoying family visits, cruises,  negative tests, reunions, etc.  Enjoy!

 

We've enjoyed a handful of cruises into or out of San Diego.  Always lovely weather, and non-problematic embarkations/disembarkations.  We still have one couple we know who live in La Jolla, and they invited us to stay with them prior to our last visit there.  Great people!  All my other friends who lived in California including San Diego have left for a better life in Texas.  Go Texas!

Good Morning from a cloudy but warm day at the beach

      Suppose to be getting some heavy but much needed rain this afternoon.

Great collection of days. I attended a Citizenship ceremony once  and it was very emotional.

     Have been to San Diego a few times, great city. We stayed at the Springhill Suites across the street from the port. We walked across pulling suitcases, it was wonderful. Debarkation was a red hot mess.  The port itself needs some work. 

    Had a very early airport run this AM to drop off my DN.  Coming back over the bridge, the terminal signs were on with todays ships listed. So great to see them on again, they were black for too long. Actually passed a few Disney buses on the  528.  There is hope!
