trey420 Posted September 29, 2021 #101 Share Posted September 29, 2021 Well shawn is feeling better not 100% yet but after some food and dramamine she's perked up and gone to sleep. Back up at 5 and feeling much better we ate at crown grill. I had the bone in rib eye and added a lobster tail. I'm not the worlds biggest lobster fan I like shrimp and crab better heck I'd even chase a crawfish first. But why not give it a go. I actually preferred the tiny lobster roll I got for 15 bucks, much more. Steak was good I like the smoked salt they let you add. She had lamb chops, she liked them a lot. Back in the room now will try and see a show tonight, encore. The weather looks like hot garbage outside. It's like snow or sleet at times. I don't know what port will look like lol. So I liked the vanilla white Russian, and the ivory coast. Now next drink to try will be the Beverly Hills iced tea, then that Manhattan. Thanks for the suggestions.

chicopaige Posted September 29, 2021 #103 Share Posted September 29, 2021 Would someone on the Majesty check to see if there is a Poker Pro on board in the casino? Had heard somewhere that this ship might not have one.

I had this in mind before, but now conforms when we go to Alaska it will be well before late September. Sorry, to see you folks having this poor weather.

Diane I think they’re supposed to call on Juneau tomorrow due to the late start. It was announced on Sunday that the ship would not be calling on Skagway on Wednesday.

My favorite drink, as suggested by Valerian who works the Princess Live! area, was getting the mocktail Strawberries on Fire and then ordering a separate shot of Raspberry Absolute vodka to pour into it. It costs two drinks but was amazing and I think it was a very generous shot. I loved the Aperol Spritz, Dirty Banana, and The Limelight. DH liked Captain's Bounty, Vanilla White Russian, Melon Lemonade, and the Red Crystal. The Isaac is a classic drink and I loved that Valerian served it with Isaac's famous finger point. We didn't try the Toasted Almond Martini but it always seems to get high acclaim.
nini Posted September 29, 2021 #111 Share Posted September 29, 2021 One year, we were on the last Alaska cruise and it began on September 15th. After that, the weather really deteriorates. I am surprised this season went so long, but it is probably due to not having much of a season at all which is understandable considering people just want to cruise again.
Don John Posted September 29, 2021 #112 Share Posted September 29, 2021 Day Three A relaxing day at sea with calmer seas. More terrific dining. Service has been uniformly up to Princess’ high standards. Another fine presentation by naturalist Michael Modzelewski. The house was packed. Time to enjoy our stateroom on Emerald Deck above the lifeboats on Promenade Deck. Most of these staterooms are “balcony obstructed” and are a great value. Highlight of the day was the Production show “Encore,” rescheduled from yesterday. Great nine piece orchestra, and fourteen terrific singer/dancers in musical review with a large, appreciative audience. Looking forward to Juneau tomorrow. Had dinner tonight with a former mayor of Juneau. You meet the most fascinating people if you tell the hostess, “two for dinner, happy to share.” Also in our dinner party, an artisanal distiller, a houseboat builder and a fisherman. We hope to see the state capitol and catch a tour, and/or the State Museum. We’ve already done Mendenhall Glacier.

I did a cruise to South Georgia Island once. On one of the days we had 110 knot (126 mph) winds. I made sure to take several pictures of the wind gauge on the bridge so people would believe me. It was sort of fun except that they cancelled the zodiac trip for that day. The ship handled it wonderfully and almost nobody even skipped dinner. trey420 Posted September 29, 2021 #114 Share Posted September 29, 2021 Well today the seas are calm and the view has improved a bit. Hopefully fog will burn off and we get a clear view. Kinda black and white with the fog but I see green ever now and then lol. Saw the show last night it was very good songs and singers were great. Tonight dinner looks good king crab and prime rib on menu. I moved my le mer reservations to tomorrow night. Will update how the day goes later.
KamAZ Posted September 29, 2021 #115 Share Posted September 29, 2021 Not sure if my fellow cruisers have seen the weather update for later this week yet, but we might be facing some rough seas after Ketchikan on Friday. Here's what the weather channel is saying in a special weather statement: "High wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph are possible from the southern Inner Channels including Ketchikan northwest along the coast to Baranof Island and Sitka all the way to Yakutat. The threat includes Prince of Wales Island as well. Friday night is the most likely threat, but the winds could persist longer, especially into Yakutat Saturday morning. High wind watches have been posted from late Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. Should the storm move inland across the northern Panhandle, other areas may see gusts to 60 mph as well, including Juneau and Gustavus. Should the storm track closer to the coast, Wrangell and Kake could receive stronger winds. As confidence grows, high wind watches could be extended elsewhere. Over the waters, we now expect storm force winds of 50 to 60 kt over the Gulf of Alaska from late Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. Seas are forecast to reach 30 feet plus for much of the gulf during the same time period. Widespread gales are a strong possibility for much of the Inner Channels." The weather for Ketchikan during the day isn't looking too great either: "Rain and wind. High 51F. Winds SSE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 100%. 1 to 2 inches of rain expected." We're just happy that we're here, regardless of the weather. I'd probably be disappointed if this was our first Alaskan cruise though. Not disappointed in anything under the control of Princess though - that has been phenomenal. There's nothing they can do about the weather. 4

Don John Posted September 30, 2021 #122 Share Posted September 30, 2021 Day Four It just keeps getting better. A day of calm seas and our first port. Decided to check out the Hollywood Conservatory (adults only) this morning. Warm location with great views and a warm pool for those who came to Alaska to swim. Up on Deck 17 forward. Weather in Juneau was accommodating. Sure it was lightly raining much of the day. But the temperature was in the high forties with no wind. So, a rain resistant jacket with a hood sufficed. We've already done the headline excursions. So, today we walked to the Alaska State Capitol and enjoyed a tour. Then right across the street was the Juneau City Museum. We learned a lot. High recommendation for both. This evening we had dinner in the Harmony dining room. A delicious five course traditional Chinese dinner. Perhaps because we were in port until 10:00pm, the venue was operating at maybe 20% capacity. The food was excellent and the service outstanding.
trey420 Posted September 30, 2021 #123 Share Posted September 30, 2021 Well today was a good day in the end. I hope it's not the best of this cruise but it might be. Went to mendenhall glacier and a garden on the side of a mountain. Watched this dude propose to his girlfriend by the mendenhall waterfall, she said yes and they then kissed for the next 20 mins lol. Then ended the day with a great pre roll from the Alaskan kush company great people and friendly budtender there gave me a awesome strain called hillbilly, a selection that I consumed before getting on board. Bought a cool shirt from them for only 10 bucks. Highly suggest trying them out, the guy was eager to help and knowledgeable. Ended the day with dinner of prime rib that was decent and crab that was ok. Not a bad dinner. After a full day, a full belly, and fully baked time for sleep. 7
