lobsternight Posted September 26, 2021 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2021 We are booked on a South Pacific out of Sydney for April 2023. Obviously Celebrity modifies its MDR menu from time to time, and we are more than happy to eat in the MDR even though the menu does sort of repeat. Can anyone comment on the menus out of Sydney, are there any locally sourced must try items that we should be looking out for in the MDR? For that matter in the buffet, as I will sometimes take lunch there.
Alakegirl Posted September 26, 2021 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2021 The dinner menus hardly ever get modified, no matter where in the world the ship is.
Northern Aurora Posted September 26, 2021 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2021 We have done several Celebrity South Pacific cruises, and have seen locally caught fish and also kangaroo on the menus.

jelayne Posted September 26, 2021 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2021 An occasional locally sourced menu item but 95% of the time the same menus no matter where the ship is and they historically have not changed often.

And that is what I'm talking about, yum! I know the menu stays somewhat the same, and who know how it will change that far in the future. It did seem on past cruises perhaps the buffet selection was modified a bit if a fair amount of certain nationals were on board. Last cruise we took there were a lot of brits, noticed buffet had a few extra or different what I would call UK staples. Not mad, seemed like more curries and I even tried mushy peas, went back for seconds.
jelayne Posted September 27, 2021 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2021 I agree the buffet seems to change offerings in recognition of where the ship is and the the nationalities of the passengers. IME the MDR sticks with the set menus with few exceptions.

For that matter in the buffet, as I will sometimes take lunch there. Look out for the chef’s tour, offered on some cruises. A small group go with the chef to local markets to buy produce which then becomes their dinner. Friends did this in the Caribbean and had a great time (and a great meal). Some mixed reviews, though, others have reported that whilst the tour with the chef was good the meal provided on return to the ship was not using the produce purchased. When we cruised the South Pacific the MDR menu was exactly the same as we had experienced in the Mediterranean. However, the buffet on one or two cruises has offered a few ‘themed’ meals and an occasional local fish dish.
