Who has cruised within the last month and what did they see in regards to masking?  My husband will be annoyed if he has to wear a mask a lot.  We’re both fully vax’d and have booster.

I was just in Calif and we had to mask up much of the time and that was annoying.

Unless I’ve been misunderstanding Mark, the Fun Squad is not given Tips. So, there is nothing ($$) to pool. Now, does that mean that someone has tipped a Squad Member at some point during Carnival Cruise history?? Heck if I know! 🤪

I did not mean tips directly given to fun squad members. What I was referring to was it is my understanding that all tips are pooled. If say you keep the auto tip on those are pooled including some crew members that normally are not given tips. I wondered if the fun squad (probably not, but possible) are included in that. It is also my undestanding that if you tip extra, those are also turned in, but then returned to the person tipped as long as the auto tip was not taken off, but go into the pool  if it was removed.

So, when people are sitting inside watching a show, they’re wearing masks? Or are they not because drinks are being served?

Basically it's "encouraged". There's little I saw in the way of enforcement during our August Mardi Gras sailing. On that sailing there were plenty of people unmasked walking around. I'd say 95% observed it in the elevators.

In an elevator, I can understand.  I can also understand at a casino table.

I was at an outdoor wedding and the B&G wore masks the entire time....even while doing their first dance (no one around them!).  (Again, this was an outdoor wedding.).  I was like, “you’re going to hate your pics when you see them.”  (And will they wear masks on their wedding night?).

There was a large (in more than one way) player at the BJ table who would not wear a mask. I asked the dealer if masks were required at the table and she said yes. I asked if that was enforced and it was like crickets. I left. They were not going to ask him to leave, as he was a regular player that cruise and had started this game with several thousand in cash...

Official policy as cut and pasted from the Have Fun Be Safe Protocols:

We strongly encourage all guests to wear face masks in all indoor public areas, particularly guests who are unvaccinated, except when eating or drinking. All guests age 2 and older will be required to wear face masks in elevators and in designated indoor entertainment venues, all retail shops, in the casino and at any indoor activity with children under 12 years (i.e., Captain’s Welcome, Build-A-Bear®, Family Harbor and Sky Zone®). Guests will be required to wear face masks prior to being seated in our main dining rooms and in the Lido Buffet area and in other designated areas where signs are posted, such as in the gym, unless exercising on cardio equipment.

All guests must wear masks during the entire embarkation and debarkation process (at the home port and ports of call, including the onboard pre-debarkation process), during any Carnival-approved shore excursions and while on any transportation vehicles, including water shuttles. Additionally, when going ashore, guests must be prepared to follow all local guidance regarding masks and physical distancing. The status of local guidelines will be shared with guests prior to debarkation at the destination.

I cannot find it now, but there used to be a list of positions that your gratuities go to - the Fun Squad is not and has never been included in that list.

  Hi,

I guess you’ll be cruising soon. Are you concerned about wearing your mask too often? ScottsSweetie posted Carnival’s Ofticial Statement.  Many people have shared their recent first hand experiences, myself included.
I hope by now you can make an informed decision as to whether you will be able to cruise during the immediate future.

Yes, yes, yes!   If your husband will be annoyed perhaps another vacation option. Or cruise out of Texas or Florida. Sorry, but your questions have been answered … many times.

I cruised from California in September and October. I have shared my mask observances.   My unsolicited advice : Please don’t take a knowingly “annoyed” hubby on a cruise out of Southern California, on a Carnival cruise. I read here on CC that Celebrity is pretty much a “mask free” cruise experience.

My native Californian’s Covid Mask Experience. We DO mask, as mandated by our State.  We are vaccinated & recently got the Booster. Not annoyed in the least. 🙋🏻‍♀️😷😁💛

I’ve been reading that apparently if you want to go to Disneyland, they don’t enforce mask or social distancing. As a local … no thank you … but might be a better fit for you & your “annoyed” [your words] hubby. 🏰🎢🎠

well if MG is full capacity  then that is what it will be .  I follow Tony on LaLidaLoca . he says to cruise now you have to have patience.  I have patience. if its crowded, then I am a. blessed to be on the ship and able to cruise. b. blessed to be with my family on the ship.

I sailed on the Oct 30th Horizon cruise. Masks are encouranged but not mandatory when walking through the halls or public places. They are not required in the outside areas of the ship. They are required in the elevators, casino, shows, buffet area, walking into restaurants. When you are in a show, you are expected to sip and cover if you have a drink. They do hand out masks in case they see someone without one in a required location.

I did not think so, but wasn't sure. And it cannot hurt to ask.

I cruised in September and chose not to wear a mask except in elevators.  I will do the same when I sail back2back on the Horizon again next month for Christmas.  I don't eat in the buffet or go to shows... and just say "no thanks" if someone mentioned my lack of mask elsewhere (which happened only twice the entire 8 days). Your husband doesn't need to be annoyed.  Have him mask up in the elevator out of respect to fellow guests... and go mask free elsewhere. No reason for something as silly as a mask to ruin his vacation. I haven't and won't let it ruin mine.

Thanks!

totally understand elevators.  That said, we plan on using stairs as much as possible as add’l exercise.  (Trying not to gain any “cruise pounds.”)

Thank you but I think we’ll be fine when we cruise in less than 2 weeks (not cruising out of CA)

And as a born-raised southern Californian, I’m very aware of what’s going on there.

Thanks.  This doesn’t seem excessive.  Seems like only when in close contact with others, except in gym.

Got off the Breeze on 11/18.  In a Q&A  with Erin the Cruise Director she gave the following numbers... we had 3100 passengers on the ship.  The numbers she gave were total amount of guests when all beds are full are 4500.That is 69%.  The ship felt almost empty. The most I ever saw in line for the Deli was 6 people. Pizza had 8 or so waiting several times that I walk past.

Often saw empty lounge chairs. Theater was never more than half full. Was a great experience not having to wait forever for an elevator.

Just off the 14 day Pride.  Pretty much everyone was masked indoors and it was 'required' as I recall.  I understood.  Carnival was working hard to get through their first Journeys cruise without incident.  We were on the same floor as the roped-off Covid Ward.  We're pretty sure there were no takers the entire 2 weeks.  Success.

Got my booster today.  Expect to feel lousy tomorrow.

I don't recall much in the way of side effects. I might have slept more and perhaps stranger dreams, but no arm soreness.

I had no arm soreness after Moderna booster. DW said her arm was sore for a day and a half. On our earlier shots I had soreness for awhile. She had less.

So as an example, the Thanksgiving cruise I am on next week shows it is sold out.  However I am confident that they have held back a lot of rooms.  I have heard of them blocking off a whole section of rooms in case there is a covid outbreak.   I was on the Breeze earlier in Nov and have no idea what the count was but it was never crowded.
