K922 Posted December 4, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 4, 2021 Hi we just got an email from NCL that they have added Virginia Beach to our July 10th 2022 cruise. Looks like it it’s for most June and July sailings.

bluenose1 Posted December 4, 2021 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2021 Moor in Norfolk and call it Virginia Beach? No other place to moor.

Norfolk is interesting to spend a half day. Williamsburg & surrounding areas as well. As for VA Beach... Yawn.
MoCruiseFan Posted December 4, 2021 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2021 Not much at all in Norfolk worth getting of for the ship for. VA Beach rates about a 3 or 4 on a scale of 1 to
ken8631 Posted December 4, 2021 #6 Share Posted December 4, 2021 Why would they add this stop? We go to Bermuda since there's only one stop and it's more relaxing.

Totally, totally agree. Why? Same issue for my cruise. They added Norfolk to our February Getaway Bahamas cruise. Don't want it. Kinda stumped on why. They took away a sea day. Major bummer; and not happy about it.
Rare Nclgetawaymenhoney Posted December 4, 2021 #8 Share Posted December 4, 2021 Yes we got the email as well for May 1st sailing. Makes zero sense we lose a sea day, and they lose out on all the $$$ they could make in the casino during that day. looking now to see if port taxes are increasing as well on a port that I Have no interest in stopping at. vacation44 Posted December 4, 2021 #9 Share Posted December 4, 2021 Agree with everyone, no desire for the Virginia stop.
Rare shof515 Posted December 4, 2021 #10 Share Posted December 4, 2021 Where will the ship dock in Norfolk? I think the ship might be too big for the cruise terminal in Norfolk. When the Bliss was laying up, she had to dock in the cargo port.
Rare mking8288 Posted December 4, 2021 #11 Share Posted December 4, 2021 Logged in for a mock booking, this unpopular addition/change not reflected or shown during the process as a new port stop, 3 days/2 nights in Bermuda for June sailings, still ... Industrial/cargo port would make it easy for provisioning the ship instead of doing it in NYC (and, in addition to Port Canaveral to load/unload ... seen that too) on busy turnaround day ?? And/or, perhaps - Navy Dockyard schedule getting squeezed, more ships heading there for the (now extended) season, from early Spring to late Fall ?? But, I agree with the sentiments that it's not something most look forward to ...

You are probably right about it being provisioning related or at a minimum, something to benefit them.
CruiseMH Posted December 4, 2021 #13 Share Posted December 4, 2021 With an additional port they have to pay additional port fees and lose money they could make on that sea day with all the upcharge options on the ship. So there must be a BIG advantage for NCL to do that. I personally have no idea what it could be but there will be for sure one.
K922 Posted December 4, 2021 Author #14 Share Posted December 4, 2021 It looks like this is going to be for the Prima sailings too in 2023. I am still not sure why… 🤷🏼♀️
AtlantaCruiser72 Posted December 5, 2021 #15 Share Posted December 5, 2021 (edited) The only logical reason for this has to be a fueling contract or provisioning contract that will save them SIGNIFICANT $$$$ over the course of time vs doing so in NYC. With the port arrival date/time showing unchanged for Bermuda the stop in Norfolk means they have to travel at faster speed to reach Bermuda on-time which uses more fuel Edited December 5, 2021 by AtlantaCruiser72
