Interesting indeed.  What ship was that Dave out of curiosity?  I’m trying to figure out how it will work on my upcoming cruise.  I have both refundable and non refundable and hoping as long as I don’t exceed the refundable I will be able to use it for the casino?

Not sure how i’m going to be able to find out.

We were on Koningsdam in April.  I guess you could ask at the front desk about this, but I am not certain they even know.

Thanks.  LOL on your last sentence.  i doubt the Front Desk would know either or worse, would give an answer that’s incorrect 😆 😂

How do you find out if the OBC is refundable or not?

If your OBC is from HAL (or the CCL stock credit) it is always non refundable.

OBC from a TA is usually refundable.  OBC you purchase yourself is always refundable.

When you get on board, take a look at your preliminary statement.  Any obc that has the wording similar to “not for use in the casino or cash” is non refundable obc. (The wording might change but you get the jist).

OBC with no conditions listed next to it is refundable.

I called HAL and tried to get them to accept my OBC as payment for the excursions - no good (as was mentioned by other posters, worth a try though).  I was told you can only use OBC onboard.

I have a lot of OBC from my TA, so I'll probably either see if I can speak with the excursions desk and find out if I can cancel and rebook some excursions while onboard or I may try to get any refundable OBC back through the casino.

Does HAL usually burn up the non-refundable OBC first?

Thanks to all for the replies.  This is what makes Cruise Critic such a valuable resource.  🙂
