Bermuda...what's open while in port?

We headed to Bermuda this summer and this will be our first time there. We've also never sailed NCL. Can anyone who has sailed to Bermuda with NCL tell me what's open while in port in Bermuda? We also stop in Virginia and will probably be staying on the ship for that port. Are the restaurants still open? Bars? Things going on? I know the casino isn't open until 9pm.  Thanks!!

Bermuda enacted a new law last year which would let casinos operate 24/7. For an extra fee, of course. So slots will probably always be available, and table games open during "busier times". I'm guessing 10 or 11 AM till 2 or 3 AM.

Calico Jacks is among the missing!  I had asked a fellow CCer from Bermuda ( I believe his/her CC name is Bluesea?) if they knew what happened to the boat. They said they had no knowledge of what happened to it. Didn't think it was still on the island, and couldn't find any reference to it on the internet.Just disappeared!! Shiver me timbers, another Bermuda Triangle story? JK

The only area that totally closes is the shops. ( Souvenirs, trinkets, clothing, booze, butts, etc.)  I think that's pretty standard for ships worldwide. So that we can support the local economy, which IMHO is a good thing.

Get out and see the island. Have dinner at Frog & Onion Pub and Restaurant. Probably a 5 minute walk from the ship. They had the best fish and chips I've ever had

The Bermuda Fish Chowder at the Frog and Onion is the best I've ever had anywhere on the Island. Also, the red onion rings are worth the trip! A side note. If you're looking to buy a hat, F+O has the best . The material is 2 or 3 times heavier than your normal hats, and they last for years! Sounds like I'm doing a commercial here!

Does anyone know why it's called the Frog and Onion? Because back when , A Frenchman (Frog) got together with a Bermudian (Onion) ( from Bermuda Onions) and opened a restaurant. Hence, the Frog and Onion. Safe Sails!

We like the Hog Penny Pub in Hamilton. It has great air conditioning . Bermuda in the summer feels like 100 degrees

We are fortunate  to be able to cruise there in April or October. Bermudas heat and humidity in the summer = overwhelming.

We thoroughly enjoy the Hog Penny Pub. Our first meal was in August of 2009. And we have been going ever since. We a going to Bermuda in June (we sail in 73 days).

The walk to Hog Penny from Front Street Hamilton is a bit steep but well worth it.

Get out and experience Bermuda. Have a Dark and Stormy! If you are fortunate to be there when Hamilton has their weekly festival (I believe it is called Harbour Nights) go and enjoy some local culture.

The public ferry is just off the dock. For $5 (per person each way) you can take a trip over to Hamilton or St George for shopping, sightseeing, and dining.

$4.50 for a token. And if you're planning additional use of the ferries or buses an unlimited one or two day transportation pass can further reduce your cost per ride.

No need to pay for the ferry to St. George for NCL passengers. The free NCL ferry to St. George is supposed to resume service this year. The public ferry is also expected to resume service this year. Neither has run since the start of the pandemic.

Oh, we definitely are getting off the ship to explore. We're super excited to be there for 3 days to see all the things! I was mainly just concerned about being able to grab a bite to eat or drink if we get a late start or head back onboard mid-day if we need to...it's probably going to be HOT

Yea, summer is Bermuda can be miserably hot and humid. We like to go early -mid June and in September

Tours are offered in the dock area. They are much cheaper than booking them through the ship. There's a nice mini-golf course that is very challenging near the dock area, but I can't remember the name of it. Lots of fun! Nice shopping and a mini-mall also in the dock area.

Thank you all for the great recommendations, I'm taking notes 🙂 I actually intended for the question to be referring to what is open on the ship while in port, but I'm loving all of the recommendations for off the ship now too!
