Testing Positive for Covid onboard Silhouette transatlantic

Hi everyone,

Been a long time since I posted but figured now was as good a time as ever to get back into it. I'm currently onboard the Silhouette's transatlantic crossing and just today woke up with cold chills and congestion. Obviously I wanted to avoid spreading this to anyone else so I called Medical this morning and they promptly arrived at my door with a PCR test and an antigen test for my husband. About an hour later, I tested positive and my husband tested negative. From there we received a visit from guest relations to discuss options and next steps. Security called to start the contact tracing process and finally housekeeping arrived to escort me to an isolation cabin on deck 3. My husband decided to stay in our original room to hopefully avoid catching anything but he will be required to take a test every day and stay masked up in public areas around the ship. All his food and drink must be consumed in his cabin.

So far, the ship staff have done a great job taking care of everything and I received a letter outlining all the details as well.

As for me, I just have a slight fever and congestion but unfortunately no balcony or fresh air in isolation.

Anyway, let me know if anyone has any questions.  This was our 5th cruise back since the pandemic halted cruises and we never got sick once but guess it was my turn today and I certainly had no idea what the process would be like. Please be cautious and wear a mask especially if you are immunocompromised.

So correct me if I am wrong...your husband is still allowed to walk around the ship but must go back to cabin to eat or drink ?

How many negative tests till he is allowed to eat in dining room?

Must you stay in isolation till cruise is over? What happens after?

Thank you

Sorry to hear this and take care.  How long is your cruise?  What day are you on?

Sorry to hear that you are unwell.
I find it totally baffling how X think you are better off isolated in a cabin with no air?

Coming from a country that now doesn’t have isolation for positive testing (just advisory, when possible) I truly think it’s time to start getting on with it!
No consolation for you but it could make people think twice about going to get medical help if you could end up in a small box with no air for 10 days!
Hope you make a speedy recovery

Hi David.  I'm sorry this happened to you.  I'm especially sorry you didn't get a balcony.  Did you get an OV at least?  I have one question - how many consecutive days are they going to make your husband test?  I'm assuming they're not planning to do this forever.

Thanks and get well soon.

So sorry you are positive- we were booked on this cruise but backed out. We were concerned that one of us might develop CoVid half way across and then what? Hope you are now as sick as you are going to get and recover quickly. Do you have any idea how many others have tested positive?

Sorry to hear.   I'm also aboard and surprised Celebrity has not been very transparent.   I noticed a nurse at a door doing a test on someone a couple days ago.

We have been masked up the whole cruise.

I'm surprised about deck 3 isolation as all of deck 6 is closed off, possibly for crew.

sorry to hear about this....maybe its just me but if I "woke up with cold chills and congestion" I think I would take some paracetamol, some wine and go back to bed for the day as the thought of being stuck in a room for days doesn't fit well.

Hope you have a speedy recovery.
We were on the prior cruise. My DH felt a little achy on Monday and as a

precaution we took Covid tests. He is positive and I am testing negative.
This was out 5th cruise since restart and we are both fully vaccinated and boosted .
I have a feeling there were more Covid cases than we thought on that cruise.

Sounds like you have typical symptoms and I hope they pass quickly and without complication. I also hope your husband continues to test negative. I wish Celebrity treated the people who test positive better.  You should have a balcony.  I've been afraid that people will not do the right thing and come forward when they have symptoms if they think it means going to room with no fresh air for days.  I'm not surprised Celebrity is not making announcements regarding the numbers.  The last two cruises I was on, the dreaded Covid word wasn't spoken about by anyone.  My cruise in March, my travel mate and I came off with Covid.  I started with a sore throat the day we disembarked, tested negative, but within a couple of days was testing positive.  My travel mate didn't test positive on an antigen test, yet she had all the same symptoms as I did (which sound exactly like yours).  She tested positive on a PCR test many days later.  I'm not sorry I went on the cruise and certainly knew the risks, but I think I would feel different if I had to stay in a cabin on the third floor day and night.  Thank you for doing the right thing!

That is correct, my husband is allowed to leave the room but must wear a mask at all times. 5 negative covid tests, 1 each day, gives him free reign again.

I must stay in isolation for a minimum of 5 days. I am released if I test negative on 2 tests, the last 2 days of the 5 otherwise my isolation gets extended to 10 days.

Your isolation cabin is an inside room? This is why I am not cruising yet. I am not afraid of getting Covid, but to spend days in isolation - no thank you. Hope you are well soon.

Slightly better, I get a window, downgraded from a suite unfortunately.

Yes, I'm in an Oceanview on deck 3. My husband will test every morning for 5 days straight.

On the Edge sailing on 3/27, Captain Costas gave a Covid number update every day. Started with crew, about 6 and one passenger, if I recall correctly.

No idea, the captain has been very silent on that topic, there's definitely at least a handful of rooms occupied down here on deck 3.

Yes, I thought for sure I would be on deck 6. It's a big downgrade from my suite but what can you do. I'd rather not get anyone else sick (including you!).

Certainly not just you! Don't tell, don't test and just stop mingling.

Not sure I’d cope in an inside cabin, I’d certainly feel “trapped”. I’ve got a balcony next month which is one of tge reasons i booked that to avoid that situation. Really cant see why they are moving you. Its well known being in fresh air is better, you can’t tell me someone could catch it from sitting on the balcony next to you, quite unlikely. I’ve had covid (double jabbed/boosted) at xmas & i’ve had worse colds. Wish u speedy recovery

Not much of a consolation but you will receive compensation for the days in isolation, I believe FCC.  You may want to have your DH inquire with the suite manager at some point so you receive before you disembark.  It's always difficult to resolve these things after you are home.
