  • The CDC don’t see issues with pressurisation they support the use of balcony cabins. I suspect the hotel director is spinning a line to support their policy.

  • Selection of cabins for isolation or quarantine should consider the following:
    • Proximity to the medical facility and gangways for ease of patient transport
    • Location in dead-end corridors or low-traffic areas to minimize potential exposures
    • Spacing between other occupied cabins to reduce transmission risk
    • Absence of interconnecting doors to reduce accidental exposures
    • Positioning within view of security cameras for enforcement of isolation or quarantine
    • Presence of balconies for psychological morale

Your post doesn't change anything. There are lots of people that open balcony doors and the air blows under the outer door this is spreading any infection into the corridor. Maybe they have taken this route on the TA as they don't want Medical Facility over-run.

My only point was that I personally found that the HD's statement had some merit to me.   Possibly something that was learned with experience and wasn't though of in the office buildings??   Would make some sense why ones in quarantine can be in balcony but if test positive are moved to deck 3.   I believe crew who are positive are put on deck 3 as well.

Phil, do you know what type of cabin your friend was quarantined in? If Celebrity and Azamara are using OV cabins I’m just wondering if all cruise companies  are all adopting this policy? If so it will be land based holidays for us for the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure.  I'll ask her.

I disagree, I think a passenger does in fact have a right to either stay in the cabin they paid for or be fairly compensated for the accommodations in which they paid if the cruise line finds it necessary to move a passenger.  A passenger should receive compensation for the days they are unable to use the room they booked or be provided LKQ - Like, Kind and Quality in accommodations if they are required to move.  There is a risk to cruising, but no one is signing a waiver that if they get Covid they are giving up their rights to receive the product for which they paid and expected.  The cruise line knows the risks as well.  When people booked their cruise has no bearing on this issue.

Actually you do not have that right. Read your contract.

Deck 3? on Equinox its deck 6. Every ship is different. Every sailing is different, as the situation changes. What one person experiences in Feb is likely not the same as a person on another ship in May.   How is that difficult to understand?

Also, have I missed a post where someone has claimed this personally happened to them?

I have no problem risking catching covid on a cruise

I have no problem testing daily.

I have no problem contacting the medical centre to say I feel unwell

I have no problem being confined to a balcony cabin if I test positive

BUT I have a real problem not knowing Celebrity’s policy before I board and where I may end up if I am positive. OV or even as I have read on Millennium in an inside cabin.
Celebrity needs to be open and transparent about their covid policy, it’s not enough to say “well if you don’t want to take the risk don’t cruise”. If we all do that there will be no cruise ships in the future. Just be honest, transparent, so people can make an informed choice and maybe consider looking after the people who are the future for your industry.

Since they cannot guarantee what will happen, before the situation has occurred (because they have no idea what might happen in an outbreak, then you most certainly should not sail. You have been told, via your contract, that you may be moved if the situation warrants it. You just don't like the answer.

Would some of you please take heed of all this and have second thoughts about going on a cruise this July. We have our sights on a particular suite on a particular ship on a particular date that is booked by one of you. We are checking several times a day and night hoping you cancel. Thank you for your kind attention.

We are cruising in a Suite in July, there were no available rooms left, there are now three as of this morning. People are most definitely voting with their feet.

Yes. This gives us hope. And others just like us. We got a Celebrity Suite on the Edge last July, 48hrs before sailing. Totally booked Retreat. Great time. Hardcore cruiser enthusiasts, Tallyho!

And what leads you to believe these SRs are being dropped because of the hysteria being shared here? TA’s release SRs they haven’t booked yet; people make changes for many reasons. Who knows. We don’t. And not knowing the cruise date, it very well be because final payment is now due, and that is obviously when more than a few than drop their reservations.

And my cruise in early July that just passed the Final Payment date did drop a bit right before that day and is now booked even higher than prior to Final. Go figure. I bet you can count on one hand those that would drop their cruise because they think they will get COVID, and then worry more about what SR they will be in. Those that worry about that Most Likely aren’t booking yet.

Enjoy a bit less crowded Retreat!

The real issue is how positive cases are being treated now days when cases do not = over run hospitals or overrun medical centers on ship or on land. They are not giving you medical care.  Except for extreme and unusual cases, you are told to stay inside take tylenol and stay hydrated (this goes for land medical care as well, I know, I just had it.)

Let's get back to the days of Norovirus/strep/flu  where you stayed in YOUR ASSIGNED CABIN for a few days.  All of this other stuff (testing, contract tracing etc) is non-sense and hopefully will be gone before our summer trip.

I spoke to her and they were on Spirit of Discovery which is an all balcony ship so whilst they were moved to a quarantine area of they still had fresh air to walk out to.

It's obvious from the bad tempered and less than respectful replies by some on this thread that we need to get back to unhindered cruises ASAP. This should be a friendly place to share a common love of being on a cruise ship, not to be snippy and try to act smarter than anyone else.

Thanks Phil for checking, maybe time to find a ship that has only balcony cabins for a while.

That is nonsense. Covid is transmitted differently than the other diseases you mentioned.

You have no way of telling that. Blocks of different class rooms are being held by TA's and as the cruise gets closer, they are released and made available. You're assumptions may or may not not be the case, but have no way of knowing and no basis under which to form that assumption.

Staff on the other hand were quarantines on board for weeks before the ship sailed. They are likely infected by passengers.

Currently, new staff onboarding on Royal Caribbean are only quarantined three days. I assume Celebrity is the same.  It isn't weeks anymore.

Covid 19  a virus, transmitted the same as other viruses, mainly. by droplet spread exactly the same as influenza, norovirus, the common cold, (which incidentally  is also a coronavirus) etc etc. it’s not the bubonic plague! Yes initially it was a novel virus meaning it was new and we knew little about it’s spread and capability. But like all viruses it has mutated, as killing it’s host is not in its best interest. Two years on science has developed considerably with treatments and vaccines.
Maybe it’s time to understand we all have different views and opinions and can all be right or wrong sometimes, but instead of being confrontational  being  willing to accept people may have different views to ourselves will make for a  happier exchange of information and possible improved knowledge.

Eh?  Exactly the same transmission methods as influenza.  Mostly airborne, droplets and aerosols.

Noro is the ringer in the list, but wasn't being presented as having a common method of transmission, just as one of the several ways to get quarantined.

Or someone that you sat near at dinner, or at a bar, or in the theater. What if it was one of your waiters that tested positive? Or the Future Cruise consultant that you sat with for 20 minutes? There are plenty of ways to be deemed a close contact unless you just stay in your cabin.

I think you're overthinking this a bit.  There is no way to know who sat at a bar, etc.  But if you're going to totally stress out over the slim chance of being tested due to contact tracing, don't cruise.  I'm not worrying about it.  It's like norovirus, bad weather, port closures, etc.  It's just what you agree to if you want to cruise.

That's demonstrably untrue based on 1st hand reports by many here who have been positive and by those caught up in subsequent contact tracing.  Really have sympathy for those on B2+B cruises who get left at port at the end of their current leg, even when testing negative!   Martini bar, dinner table, theater, casino, dining, and a whole host of other venues reported as visited by positives are reviewed in video.

There is no way the ship can contact trace random people coming in contact.  I have not heard of anyone being left at port on a B2B due to a negative test.  There is a thread out there by a guy who tested positive.  He was quarantined, his wife who tested negative was not.  So, there you have it.  I suspect the contact tracing on a cruise ship is quite limited.

There have also been tests required for all passengers on some longer cruises or cruises to ports of call requiring testing

Can you give me some examples? I have not seen that anywhere.  Also we did a cruise on Reflection in Dec.  There were about 150 positive cases throughout the 7 night cruise and we saw absolutely no evidence other than it was announced.  No mass testing, no mandatory masking, no cancellations of anything.  So I can only speak from personal experience and what I have personally read.
