Carnival Temporarily Closes Popular Restaurant, Dining Experience

This was my earlier point about choosing another cruise brand or product that better suits your needs and represents a better product for your investment but if I recall that was, I think the word was, dumb.  If Carnival CHANGES their product and people keep buying it anyway, there is no incentive to stop CHANGING. Voting with your dollar is more impactful than chit chatting with virtual people on social media about how much you dislike something.

Changes are just that. Not all are cutbacks, despite the word being tossed around. Many are improvements. There was a time when there were no Cucinas, no comedy clubs, no Cheers, no this or that. This is a temporary change.

If people want to try other lines they should. No drama required.

The hot baked potato item got me laughing.  Sitting at > 200 days and I can't ever remember a hot baked potato on Carnival or any other line.  However, it that is the worst item faced on the cruise, it has been a $#$*!@ good cruise!

I'm a Carnival Platinum and I can honestly say that after my August cruise... if there is no Cucina or Chef's Table, I'm done. I split my cruise and casino dollars between Carnival and Celebrity.  Carnival comps me suites... Celebrity verandahs. The suites, other amenties and ability to smoke in the casino are the only reason I keep me coming back to Carnival. The inability to dine however will be deal breaker. I'll be done with Carnival and I'll be sure to let the casino team know why.

Same for us. We were done after our 2019 sailing and had 3 Disney cruises booked that got axed due to Covid. Only reason we are sailing on Mardi Gras in July is because I got a ridiculous casino offer that would have been idiotic to pass up. So we will go. But unless the ship just absolutely blows me away that i want to try Celebration or the casino gives me another stupid casino offer that I’d be an idiot to not take advantage of, we plan on being done with Carnival. It’s just gotten boring.

Just boarded the Liberty - and thought I'd pass along some observations/updates:

I was planning on heading up to deck 10 (in the aft part of the buffet area) to enjoy some BBQ for lunch. Unfortunately, they are no longer open on embarkation day, whereas they were just 4 weeks ago.

Also, I noticed that the Deli does not open until 3:30 today. I'm pretty darn sure it had been open previously when the rest of the buffet opened up. Just checked, and it's not scheduled to open until 3:30 again tomorrow (Nassau day) and then at 2:30 on Sunday (sea day). So much for enjoying the Deli for lunch !!

Seafood Shack - opens at 3pm today, 4 pm tomorrow, and then noon (their "old" regular time?) on Sunday.

Guys used to be open until 6, now it shows as closing at 5 pm every day.

On the bright side, the Guy's burger I enjoyed for lunch was the best I've had since restart. Probably more a timing thing (fresh) more than anything else. Also, it would appear that we're not anywhere near 100% capacity - similar to last month I suspect, but noticably less crowded that our two Liberty sailing in March.

There was a letter in our cabin noting that the $50 pp OBC (for the temporarily discontinued Diamond Gathering) would appear tomorrow, and that the Pizza place would be closed from 3 am to 10 am. I think that they had already cut back the hours previously, not sure if this represents more trimming or not.

Probably more things that I'm just not aware of yet...

I'm fairly sure that you've been to enough of those parties $100.00 bucks wont hurt that onboard credit 😉 to bad.

We are more than happy to "trade" the gathering for the OBC any day, and all day !  😄

What do you feel is the number of guests on-board?

Our favorite bartender (Alberto) just told me there was 2,100 this sailing. I told him we'll be back on next Friday and he said "the 27th"? I said yes, and he said there would be over 3,000 on that cruise!

Well, I am sure others may disagree, but I'd hardly call that "limited capacity".

Without reading all 7 pages, just off the Breeze, the CD, Cookie said we had 3800. Honestly it felt like more since we had just come off two cruises within the last year with around 1600 on each.

In the first quarter 2022, Carnival Corporation said its occupancy was 54%. For comparison, the average occupancy in 2019 (the year before the health crisis) was at 106.8% across all its ships.Mar 22, 2022Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald shared that in March so far, occupancy levels are closer to 70%. In addition, the company has also seen more than 40 sailings with occupancy of more than 100%. On top of that, Carnival says that recent weekly bookings have been at higher volumes than at any point since cruising restarted.

The Visas are an issue. I also suspect there is more covid on the ships which also lead to some staff shortages. Cases are rising on land.

I’ve seen reports where they’ve had illness leading to cancelled shows.

I've cruised 3 times since the restart - they haven't had a single platinum event yet. Can't suspend it if they already aren't doing it.

just got off the vista 2 weeks aga we did have a diamond platinum party

I'm just off the Carnival Horizon this morning.  My server at Cucina del Capitano the day before yesterday said that they were going to suspend service in that venue soon.

I've always enjoyed the food and ambiance there....the pork chop being my favorite entree.

I did not hear any official announcement as to capacity on my 8 night trip, but I know it had to be 90% or so.
