question about Drink Package

We bought the drink package and noted two things that we have questions on

1) it said not more than 16 drinks (i think that was the number) in a 24 hour period- does that count non alcholic drinks like coffees or teas as well?

2)are beverages like the Frappes at the coffee bar included in the drink package?

3) it looked like it said drink package starts on day 2- is that correct?

1- 15. No. Only alcoholic drinks count towards that. FYI they say you can only have 15 alcohol drinks a day even if you pay for them.

2 - yes.

3 - depends where you sail from. Texas and NY start on day 2 due to taxes and liquor laws.  Everywhere else is day 1.  You only pay for the days it’s available.

1) You are limited to 15 alcoholic drinks a day.  The day is from 6am to 5:59am.  Non-alcoholic drinks are not included in the count.

2) Most non-alcholic drinks are included.  So, yes, get all the specialty coffees you want 🙂

3) If you are sailing from NY or TX, then it starts on day 2.  You pay out of pocket on day 1 and they start charging you for Cheers on day 2.

note on # 3,  if sailing from other US ports Cheers starts day 1, but you will be charged sales tax until ship in international water

My wife and I are not heavy drinkers so the package would be way over doing it for us. I always purchase the Bubbles. If I want a mixed drink I get the soda to match the alcohol I want. Then I purchase a double shot because the glass has a lot of soda in it. The cost of a double or a shooter is not that much. During the course of the cruise they sometimes have a special for them. ie, If I want a rum runner I will just purchase one. That is us. By the way. The Red Frog when boarding will usually have specials.

  • 2 weeks later...

So a few years ago, the bartenders would "warn" you when got to drinks 13 and 14.  You could then decide whether to max out at 15 and go to bed, or start buying drinks before maxing out.  The idea was that any alcoholic drink you bought didn't count toward the Cheers! limit.  That has changed?

(FWIW, I only maxed out my card once, when I was a bit younger than I am now!)

You cannot purchase alcoholic drinks after you reach 15.  It goes on your sail & sign card and stops at 15 whether its purchased or through your cheers package.  I don't know if bartenders could get away with that even if it's possible.

when you hit 10 the count appears on your receipt.

from what I understand, you can buy things like a bucket of beer that do not count towards your 15 for cheers or daily total. Not sure about individual drinks

Wow this insight is really surprising me!  We are Cruising in three weeks and we've been making jokes about the 15 drink maximum with the package.  We honestly aren't sure how many drinks we will be drinking! lol It's pretty easy to start the day with a few bloody mary's or mimosas, then a few beers by the pool, and if you are me, many glasses of wine over dinner!  Nevermind a few drinks after dinner and then of course a nightcap before bed!  This is vacation after all! Maybe not every day of the Cruise, but who is Carnival to judge what a person's tolerance is! Of course obnoxious intoxication needs to be stopped, but how about just the average person who knows their limits and when they need to stop?  And I guess you guys have answered our question whether or not the 15 drinks carries over to the next day... obviously not if we are capped at 15.  I am happy I found this thread, thank you!

I agree, I did this a few times, throw an afternoon nap in there and I was at 15 without even a buzz.  But I can see why they limit.  Had to budget better lol.

The GF was in the casino till about 3am, and yeah, it was all the same day.  Didn't know what the cutoff was, but sounds like 6am.
