Princess's free casino cruise

A few weeks ago I met a few passengers aboard the Caribbean Princess who said they received their cruise for free because they gamble on the ship. I imagined that they must be high rollers, but one woman said she sticks to the penny slots.

It made me wonder, how much money does someone have to spend in the casino to get a free cruise with Princess?

They may bet on the penny slots but you can be sure their bet isn't one penny 😆 My dad loves them too and they are often $10 or more per pull.

You would need to spend big money for a free cruise I imagine!

Yes I'd imagine you'd have to spend A LOT of pennies! I just wonder how much?

No real way to tell but we stick to penny or quarter machines with pulls of $2.00 or more. We gamble approximately 3-4 hours per day and usually get offers many times a year. We usually take 7-10 day cruises on the Pacific Coast where we live to supplement our 2 14-18 day cruises that we pay for. For instance we are taking a 10 Mexico trip out of SF in November. We are getting a free balcony, $400 deposit back as OBC, $1,000 free play for one of us and $250 free play for the 2nd passenger and Princess Plus included. Pretty good deal and we opt usually to pay a few thousand to upgrade to a full suite

That’s awesome.  Does the offer come from the ship you’ve just sailed?

The deals we are offered as we leave the ship do not usually have that much free play. We get Emails and snail mails every few months with the better deals

I'm what you would consider a small gambler.  No more than a two hundred dollars is set aside per cruise for gambling and receive casino offers recently almost weekly either by email or flyer.  The email I received last week was for a free inside room and some casino OBC.

Offers come in at least forms- If you have gambled during the cruise and reach various levels of play you will get offers, usually on the last night, to "come back and play". Offer in those cases is based on the amount of money you put through the machines--Not amount of win/lose. They use a point system that gives one point for each $3 played. The award depends on the length of the cruise so is an average per day.  The other form that I have received is either in the form of a snail mail or email. Those offers usually are for inside cabins with various amounts of OBC (actually Casino Credit). Those require you pay taxes and fees plus a $200 refundable deposit. You can upgrade to higher cabins for an additional fee. If you are lucky enough to be on the casino list, your TA can get a possible 35% discount on normal cruise fares. In the surrounding 12 months we will take 16 cruises with 10/11 being casino cruises. Love it 🙂

All sorts of different ships. We generally get a variety of ships and destinations with free balcony, free play from around $500 to $1,500 and often includes Princess Plus

Thanks for the info.  I need to play more.

Are these offers mostly for slots or table games? My cousin got a free Princess cruise but from playing in Vegas, but they are going in Sept. Free inside for 2 but upgraded to balcony plus added the kids. I don't gamble but now thinking maybe I should set aside some money... LOL

Based on a number of posts over the past few years, the answer is none of us know.

Some people have posted that they bet very little and hardly go to the casino, but do receive these casino offers.

Some others post they are in the casino for hours at a time and bet significant amounts and they also get these offers.

However, as posts in this thread have pointed out, the value of the offers can vary significantly.

the thrill of success can't be beat. We usually end the journey financially ahead and visit future cruise planning office

We have cruising friends who have never spent a dime in the casino.   They are about to embark on a free cruise in a  balcony cabin with &1000 in free play.    Not sure if they will actually use the free play…..they don’t believe in gambling.  They figured it was a free cruise why not take advantage

  • 2 weeks later...

Don't know their system, same as the other casinos on land.  How much you put in the machine, you get points.  My husband and I both play in the casino, have a budget we play on, but if you get lucky and win and can play more back into the machines then you get more points.

My husband gets different offers than me.

We only book casino cruises, and have taken five in the past 6 months and have 3 more booked for the future.
