Julie, so sorry to read that both you and Keith are sidelined for a few days. Hopefully, you are both recovering quickly.

As we will be joining you on the Sojourn in a couple of weeks we really appreciate these updates getting us ready for what may be in store for us. We, too, have evaded this virus for 21/2 years, are fully vaxed, double boosted, wear masks when appropriate  but still, we realize, we are very vulnerable to its whims!

Get well soon!

Dee and Bob

Still can't do photos because I can't upload. Will hopefully try again tomorrow if we can get wifi while in Cadiz.

It was formal night tonight and we made an effort to dress nicer...hopefully photo to follow. We had a call from the Guest Services Manager for positive thoughts for a negative result. The room service team also hoped for a good result, I think they meant that in a positive way 🙂. We have joked throughout so I am fairly confident we are okay. Sorry about the scary photo, I tried to reduce the size.

Our starters were Octopus A La Plancher (it was listed as a main but I asked for it as a starter) and Yellow Fin Tuna Carpaccio with Caviar with a side of Caramelised pear, blue cheese and oak leaf salad. The Octopus is there and very tasty it was it was just hidden by the salad leaves.

IMG_6509.thumb.jpeg.4a67a1126ec9109a0e261a8106ed62b8.jpeg

Our mains were Butter Poached Maine Lobster on citrus risotto with green & white asparagus and Fillet of Fresh Flounder Meunière with potatoes, carrots and snow peas. I forgot to take the photo.

This morning they came and tested us and even though we have no symptoms, apart from an occasional morning cough, we both tested positive. So no Cadiz for us. They will test again tomorrow morning.

I spoke to the Guest Services Manager and apparently at worst we will be released at Day 10 which is the 24th as we could just be unfortunately a persistent positive. I hope we get negative before then as we have lots of plans for Tangier and Motril.

Stay safe everyone,

Julie

You should be OK to meet up in the 25th then.  It seems different rules for different ships.  I was negative after 5 but Alf was still positive but released after 7 days?   Greece only wanted 5 days quarantine and .Spain doesn’t have any quarantine rules.

My DIL is an RN and works in our main public hospital. She had Covid, did her 7 days isolation and when all symptoms had gone she went to have a PCR thinking she would have to have a negative test to return to work. Her test came back positive. She rang the hospital and was told if you don’t have symptoms don’t test because you could return a positive result for up to 8 weeks!!!
The message was, we need you, come back to work.

I sincerely hope you don’t continue to test positive, but it can happen.

Have to say, if we had been stuck in a cabin (sorry suite) for that long we would not be smiling - well done you.

Maybe I need to try that as well...you need us please let us come back 😄.

@Tallante we should definitely have no  problems meeting on the 25th. As you  say I guess different ships. They're the owns in charge and they have been very good so we follow their rules. 🤞hoping for a negative tomorrow. We would like to see Gibraltar tomorrow.

@SLSD thanks for your kind thoughts.

I did get the photo of our main dishes. We asked and received our main dish about 40 minutes after our starters were brought.

I have a question for yourself or anyone else with knowledge of Cadiz.

What is this statue called and why is it atop this building? I can see it directly from my balcony.

So sorry to hear about your Covid.  Hopefully you will be 'released' soon.  Well done both of you for dressing for dinner, I'm afraid I might well be slobbing about if that were me!

We spend a lot of time in Spain, a visit long ago to Cadiz, and the statue is the winged mermaid, she's rather glorious isn't she?

No idea why she's there though!

Thank you Mauzac. I have been trying google search with no success. We have looked at a couple of cruises for August/September next year that returns to the places we miss on this year. When we get to Cadiz I will surely ask at the tourist bureaux.

Tonight for dinner we had the Chef's special. As I mentioned a few days ago he is Indian and his Indian food does not disappoint. It had wonderful spice without blow your mind chilli. The mango chutney and raita included photo wouldn't upload properly but they were delicious .

Hi Julie,

Lovely photos of the food and land from your cell.

You both look great with Covid and much better than last time I saw you.😀

Stayed at Claridges last week and remember when you came to London and we had that wonderful dinner at Le Gavroche.

I have had a word with the judge and hopefully you'll get out soon with good behaviour.

The building is the HQ of a local newspaper, the Diario de Cadiz.  The mermaid is a bit of a puzzle.

Julie

Julie,

The building is named "El Fénix" (the phoenix) after the name of the insurance company that built it in 1957.  The statue represents Ganymede riding the Phoenix.  The statue actually fell to the ground in 1979 during a violent storm. Fortunately, no one was injured.  It was restored two years later.

It is, of course, a mixed metaphor, since Ganymede was abducted by Zeus who turned himself into an eagle, and not by the phoenix. So we have the insurance company saying it can bring its clients back from the ashes (phoenix) and give them eternal youth (Ganymede). Nice trick.

Here is the history and lots of photos as told by the Cadiz Museum.

I knew I could rely on you all to help 🙂.

Thank you @marazul for the detailed explanation.

Ask him to make Marsala Dohsa for breakfast. Divine!!

That looks delicious but I will have to see if he can do it for lunch as I am not a breakfast person. I am just having yoghurt these mornings.

That dinner at Le Gavroche was wonderful, I still recall the shallow, flat pan soufflé being very special.

Well your talk to the judge didn't help, we are still positive so here we stay. That's okay we are accumulating lots of FCC and there is a cruise next year that goes to similar ports. We will speak to the Cruise Specialist when we get out.

I think I will blow the diet and have a burger today rather than salad.

Gibraltar is hot and humid today and when we arrived the Rock had a table cloth on it. It reminded me of seeing a similar table cloth on Table Mountain in CapeTown.

Not to forget Ayres Rock in that back and beyond third World country 😁

Today's update:

We are in Tangier today and my view is of the ocean and the dock. There was a lot of buses lined up this morning and a few private cars. It is actually quite relaxing to hear the ocean and even the occasional squawk of the seagulls.

I have now tested negative but Keith is still positive so I will stay in the cabin with him. Hopefully we will both be negative tomorrow.

Thanks Everyone.

@SLSD I must admit I had a little cry this morning. I spilt the milk when I was putting it back on the breakfast tray and in Tangier I had booked a private car to take us to the Blue City in the mountains so I was sad to miss that. Seabourn were quick to refund the money to our account.

I'm fine now. 🙂

Poor you 😥😥

You have been remarkably stoical.

Isn't it strange how covid varies so much from person to person.  My daughter's partner got it last week.  Tested positive on Tuesday, big red line, same again Wednesday.  Thursday very faint line.  Friday no line.  He kept testing over the weekend... all negative.  So, over and done with in a matter of a few days.

Good luck for tomorrow!
