The (not my) call for Celeb to go Adults only - is it even practical?

Royal is currently testing starlink on one of their ships (freedom?).  I believe starlink has received FAA approval for use on moving ships. Assuming it all works out and goes fleet/company wide, you may see drastic improvements in internet bandwidth/latency in the next few years.

For current land user customers of Starlink, there was a one time fee of $599 for satellite dish and router, then $110 per month. I imagine, if it works on ships, it’ll be priced dirt cheap like the cruise and everything else on the ship.

There were 8 adults at a big table and they put their 6 kids at a separate table and left them to do whatever they wanted including food fights and chasing each other around screaming and yelling.

Fair enough; poor call by onboard management.  Everyone should enjoy themselves without significant interruption.  That's not behavior I'd tolerate off my kids at any price point of dining. I'm actually somewhat surprised they would not just comp the dinner witnessing the situation and push the client to escalate.

I think the business class (200-500 mbps) is priced at $500-$600.

More with starlink, over at RCLblog someone was able to test it, it's still fast apparently when everyone is using it.  I often do wifi speed tests, on the Infinity, the average Download was 1.68Mbps and upload was 0.929Mbps, look at the speeds below, rivals many at home internet speeds:

No thanks.  We came from Viking.  My husband hates all the old people (he's 56).  And while I liked Viking, it is nice to have *well behaved* younger people on board.  Meaning not screaming at dinner.

I have friends who moved to 55+ communities.  I think I would hate it.  What are they trying to do?  Get away from all the kids at the pool and the ones selling lemonade on hot days?

Now, "no babies", I could get used to that.  😁

LOL

We live in a 55+ community and the pool is always full of grandkids.

Mostly single women with little yappy dogs...

That’s nice.  Our pool is pretty busy.  Where do those kids go at the end of the day?  Are they allowed to stay overnight?  Or for a week or two?

What will never happen??  Celebrity becoming adult only??  If so, "shame" on the person for just asking about it??  What world are you living in!

Yes they can stay overnight.

Our pool doesn't have pool hours for kids but I know some of the other 55+ communities restrict hours.

they suggested that Celebrity become adult only.  I say it will never happen....  And why?  My kids loved Celebrity when we first sailed on Horizon with them 20 years ago.

Wow

‘They’, the OP, did not suggest Celebrity become adult only, they asked what CC readers think about the idea, and even in the title strongly infers the OP doesn’t think its a great idea and even had ‘is it even possible?’.

Ashamed?? Again…..Wow.

I will say it again SHAME ON THE PERSON WHO SUGGESTED IT.  I never referred to the OP.  Maybe reading comprehension eludes you.

Back tracking is very weak and unbecoming because you certainly implied it.  JUST OWN IT AND MOVE ALONG!

As much as I like the idea of adults only, I don't like how adult only resorts are full of noisy party folk (remembering the 18-30 holidays from the 80s).

We enjoy a quiet cruise, and so far not experienced any issues on any Celebrity cruise, but as others have said, we do plan our trips during term time.

Although, it would be appropriate for Celebrity to go adult only, after all they are the only cruise line who are 'X Rated' (just look at the funnel 😉  ).

OK @LMaxwell/OP, have you been properly admonished and are now fully ashamed….didnt put it in all caps because reading comprehension of the CC rules is something I can actually do…..

Most all fully understood this was just an interesting subject to bat around a bit and you, in the title, made it quite clear this was extremely hypothetical and something you may not agree with.

Similar to other threads, many, that suggest what we all know wont/cant be done:

”I Hate the Edge IVs and they all need to be changed to regular Balconies!!”
                                                     Or

”I want access to the Casino and Shops throughtout the Cruise. Keep them Open in Port!!”
                                                   Or

”I know X only makes one announcement per day, but I just Hate any reference to anything being sold listed in the Daily’s or the App. Stop that!”

                                                  Or

you fill In the blank

I do want to try Virgin...... Their concept seems cool.

If you want to avoid kids then cruise when kids are in school Sept-May and avoid school vacation periods (most of Feb, Mar and first 3 weeks of April) and never, ever, ever book one of the holiday cruises (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years). If you have to cruise in that Feb-Apr school vacation period then try a cruise that is 10 nights or longer.

We have followed these rules and on our Celebrity cruises we have had maybe 5-10 kids onboard at one time at most.

I think having adults only sailings or perhaps designating a particular ship as adults only could be something Celebrity could try but it’s probably not something that is at the top of their list of things to get done especially in Covid recovery where they want to get any and all passengers they can.

It's just a discussion. Not everything can be flight logistics, excursion suggestions, or cabin reviews; sadly not every post can be a Live On Board with photos either. Something to fill the time.  I think if Celebrity had 1/3 the number of ships as they have now, or significantly smaller ships and could command 30-50% higher pricing they could potentially go adults only.  But the name of the game is volume and a nod towards families/multi-generation families is a good volume play.

It's not a drive by. Someone posted it on another site. Since the rules here are strict about linking or mentioning other sites, I don't know any other way to present it. But hey, I can't make you opine on the question posed. Odd one would choose to participate at all - isn't this a waste of your time?

@Gatordad1967 Virgin are offfering their third opportunity to book a weeks cruise this Summer for 115,000 virgin points. Mainly Med. But Carib. too. I am wondering if that is a reflection of how well they are selling the cruises for cash.  Is the Adult Only concept working for them?

There is a small cruise line in the UK called Saga which are offer over 50s cruises. The new small ships look great and itineraries good too. However Saga is a brand historically synonymous with old folks holidays and my 62 yr old wife will not countenance giving them a try. My friends elderly mother had a great cruise with them in a solo room of which they have many.

We love Celebrity and rarely see children causing an issue. Never travel during school holidays. The Retreat obsession with X is irksome tho.

What really annoys me is travelling Business Class and having a noisy child adjacent to me. All that cash for a comfortable flight spoilt by crying and tantrums.
