Extra CAS point after a “no show”

Is the extra points for sailing solo after the other passenger doesn’t show up an actual policy written somewhere or is it a YMMV situation? There’s been a few reports lately of not getting the extra points.

I assume "no show" happened when someone can't the cruise even though they have paid the cruise in full. If the cruise line keep the money, shouldn't they give little back?

I mean, if it was beyond the point of refundability and the cruise line made the $$, why not?

Doesn't work that way.

...I know that. I didn't say it did. But at the end of the day, they still got paid (not as much as they would if you were onboard, they certainly lost the potential for oboard revenue by you not showing up).

Gotta sail to get points, or one could just buy pinnacle status without ever sailing.

Are people really going to pay for a hundred cruises and just not show up so they can become pinnacle?   😂😂.  Might be a better strategy to book suites and get something for your money.

Yes, some people have money.

Many would do it to get to the next level as one can see from numerous threads named  “I’m short two points to Platinum, what should I do?”  And “I need six points to be Diamond before my big 14 day cruise, what should I do?”

The latter. If the C&A system doesn't automatically credit the extra points, when you call to ask for them, the answer will likely be no. Up to you how many times you want to ask.

Biker, whose quest for the no show extra points was four calls and three LAs visits over 1.5 years but eventually successful.

There are plenty of really cheap cruises out there that people would book just for points

More than 10+ years ago, on one of my very early RCL cruises, I was a no-show due to work commitment. My travel companion did not receive the solo points as a result.

The extra point for solo started about 10 years ago, so your experience could have been before that was even possible.

There are people who pay double, triple, or more for their cruise by giving away money in the casino.  That boggles my mind too.

At least there's the (slim) chance that they'll get something in return.  And (for some) there's entertainment value in playing.

What they will boast about: "I won one hundred dollars tonight in the casino!!!"

What they're silent about: "I lost two thousand dollars over the 5 previous nights."

And (for some) there's entertainment value in playing.

"For sure I'm going to win this time!"

"I can feel it!  These dice (di?) are hot!"

"This slot machine is ready for a big payout!"

Insurance companies and casinos.  They take in far more than they pay out..... otherwise they wouldn't be in business.

Oh, believe me, I don't disagree with what you're saying. But what I'm saying has truth in it, too ..... for many.  Like most people, I "dabble" at the casino for fun. But I will stop at roughly $100 in losses. Most often, I break even. The people you describe have a problem and it goes far beyond entertainment.

I do hope that the insurance cos. takes in more cash flow (premiums) than they pay out in claims, otherwise they would be bankrupt, just like our government.😁

With regards to casino, I equate it to entertainment.  I have a budget whether it's Atlantic City or the casino on board the ship.  Whether I use these funds to gamble or take a show and dinner in NYC, it's my alienable right to use these $s as I see fit, as long as I enjoy it.

Ps.  I got some payback for Casino Royale--A complimentary balconies of 5 nites on Mariner this past December and an upcoming 8 niter on Anthem in early February.😊

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking it was probably YMMV. My wife and I are 16 points short of diamond with an 8 day booked next month. So while most would take an extra

cruise to level up, I’m considering just staying home.

The rules as I understand, is that you must be physically on board to earn the points.  However, some years ago while sailing to San Juan, we received an emergency call that my daughter was rushed to the hospital.  This was our third night out and the next day in San Juan we terminated our sail to go home.

We got credited with the entire 7 nights.

My wife goes and gets the double points while I stay home. I get 0 points but still linked to my wife’s account who will be a brand new diamond on our next cruise together.
