Mexico cartel violence: Tijuana, Mexicali, Rosarito and Ensenada hit by burning vehicles, blockades - ABC7 Los Angeles

What will the Carnival Radiance do since the port of Ensenada is closed currently due to this cartel violence?

Do they stay out at sea? I thought there had to be an international destination open to port at. Or will they still dock just not allow people off the ship?

I agree.  I am not a big fan of Ensenada either.  I don't know of any other ports that a 3 day cruise could do in Mexico.

Mine is a four day out of SF but I would certainly not be upset if they needed to extend it for unforeseen circumstances.😆

I will also be on a four day Miracle out of SF departing September 1.   I doubt Carnival can find another Mexican port if Ensenada is a problem.  I know you are joking, but of course there is no way they can extend the cruise without messing with the Alaska cruises that sandwich the short trip to Ensenada.  My guess is that if the cartel violence around Ensenada is bad we will pull into Ensenada and Carnival will simply advise people not to get off the ship.

Radiance and Navigator of the Seas scheduled to stop in Ensenada tomorrow.  Will be interesting.

I have a cruise there that is happening pretty soon and haven't received notice of Ensenada being closed. I'd rather go to a different port anyway so this would be a welcome change lol.

I was in Rosarito Beach on Wednesday this week. I didn't see cars on fire but I did pay $3.72 a gallon for regular gas. Other than Ensenada, Carnival really doesn't have any nearby ports to visit in Mexico that I am aware.

Maybe they could tender into Tijuana? 😁

I paid $3.19 yesterday at Sam's Club.

That article makes it sound like that gang's hissy fit is only going to last through this weekend, but when they don't get what they want who knows hos long the nonsense will continue.

This certainly caught my attention since I'm booked on a cruise to Hawaii soon that's scheduled to stop at Ensenada.  I really wonder what will happen if Carnival determines that it's not safe for us to dock there.

I think they can secure the port and let people off for a shot of tequila then back on.

A few years back, Carnival would bus people to Ensenada to catch a ship to Hawaii. The buses were escorted with Federales even back then.

We are on the radiance over Labor Day..we already had no intention on getting off at port, lol. (Done it once, gave it another chance, no need to try again)

We actually enjoy Ensenada.  Wine tours to the Guadelupe Valley are very nice, have done them multiple times.   https://www.forbes.com/sites/julietremaine/2018/10/02/valle-de-guadalupe-is-the-napa-valley-of-mexico/?sh=4d835aaa4efe  Now we get off the ship to get massages . . . so much cheaper, and done better, than on the ship.  It would be a shame if the cartels shut down Ensenada.

Yup, it wouldn't be too hard for the federales to secure the two cruise ship docks if they wanted to.

Love Catalina island but when it comes to Ensenada, that day I always stay onboard. Nothing there really.

Catalina Island doesn't really come into play here since it's in California.  A foreign-flagged ship has to call at a foreign port on a round-trip sailing from a US port (and passengers have to be given the opportunity to get off the ship--Norwegian sued for enforcement of that when another cruise line tried scheduling round-trip Hawaii sailings from southern California with a technical stop in Ensenada where passengers could not disembark).

Ensenada is pretty much the only option for a foreign port on the 3-day sailings from southern California.  The 4-day sailings could make it to Cabo and back but that would burn a whole lot more fuel than the cruiselines want when they could go to the much closer Ensenada and Cataline Island instead.

I'm leaving on a 4-nt to Ensenada from San Francisco in just a few days, so I'm wondering what they'll do for us. Our group wasn't planning to do much in Ensenada, maybe just get some tacos, so the port itself isn't really a big deal.

I assume they wouldn't cancel the cruise completely? Should we be expecting a cruise to nowhere? I'm not sure where else they would send us so close to our cruise date.

After checking the port maps, it looks like Cabo would be the closest. I know there are 5 day cruises that do two days in Cabo but not sure how that would work on a four day cruise but it's possible theoretically. There is still some time for things to get worked out but not much. Worst case scenario it will be a technical stop in Ensenada and everyone just stays on and it's essentially a cruise to nowhere.

I'm on the one after you, sure hope we don't get canceled. That would suck.

The Mrs. just seen a few posts on bookface about getting port fees/taxes refunded and some onboard credit. Sounding like things won't be canceled. Probably going to sell a lot more drink packages now lol. Sounding like a cruise to nowhere is the solution, dock for a bit to meet the technicality and pull back out? Or something like that. Someone on Radiance posted about getting $50 OBC and a 50% FCC. Kinda hoping they keep up the nonsense, sounds like a deal to me lol. May have to send the cartels a thank you letter. 😁

Huh?  Last fill up was $5.99 -- and I was happy that we finally came in under $6 (that is #2 diesel).

Back to the topic, I seem to recall something similar happening before with Mazatlan.  I don't remember it being cartel related.   Just high crime if I recall.
