Preordering Assorted Canapés/Cheese Tray

Hello, Princess Board!

I cannot seem to find anything in the forum about this, so my apologies if this topic exists somewhere and I missed it.

For anyone with experience: how good are the preordered assorted canapes and/or cheese tray?

Price it very reasonable at $10 for standard canapes, or $14 for deluxe canapes, and $12 for cheese tray. I am bringing on board a bottle of nice champagne and was thinking it would be good to host friends in my cabin on embarkation day...but I am wondering about the quality, especially at that price point.

I'm new to Princess, but last three cruises were within NCL Haven and the daily treats, which range from candies/sweet to canapes, were hit or miss (mostly because the food might be sitting in the room for hours). I won't be in a suite with this Discovery Princess cruise.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

So the canapés are okay there are two that we really like the rest are just okay and if you are paying for it I would say it's not worth it.  I do like the cheese tray mostly for the ease of having it in the cabin already.

Just my opinion.   You will get many different opinions on the canapes.

The canapes we receive on formal nights for being Elite are hit and miss.   Mostly miss.   As you said they have been sitting and are for the most part dry.

Now the canapes we received from our Travel Agent were so much better.   For one fresh and better tasting.    Now will all the preordered Canapes be fresh.   Can't tell you but the one experience we had was good.

Why don’t you make your own?  Go to the buffet and grab plates of cheese, bread, crackers, grapes and other fruits and olives.  Always lots of cold meats, seafood, etc. available.  We do it all the time, which is why we love cabins on Lido deck.  Nice glass of wine and all the snacks we like and much fresher than what you get from a preorder.

also don't forget going to the International Cafe (if there is one on the ship) - lots of options there

I have ordered the canapes and the cheese plates for clients of mine. Everyone has love the cheese plates. Canapes - not so much. So the last few times I have just ordered the cheese plate for folks.

Back in April of 2019 when I sailed on Princess I decided to try the canapes myself. And I have to agree - not worth the money spent. I often grab a meat, cheese and snack plate from the buffet just in case I end up starving to death due to lack of food 😉

I do enjoy the suite life on NCL. They definitely spoiled me over there. I've been in one suite on Princess and it was very nice but the service wasn't as great as on NCL.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected. Will stick with cheese tray and maybe the veggie tray for some variety.

The preordered were better than the Elite formal night ones.

We liked the cheese platter best.

When you get OB, call room service and order guacamole and chips…very good….no charge.

I often have plates of snack foods delivered (unsolicited by me — gifts from casino or rewards Dept or ???) to my cabin.  Except for chocolates and choco-strawberries, I won’t touch them and dislike having them in the cabin.  I don’t sample unidentified food.

Do we need to be in cabin for treats guacamole and chips etc to be delivered?

My understanding is that you can order from just about anywhere via the app and have it delivered to your location on the ship. But I’ve heard that can be hit or miss. Looking forward to putting this to the test.
