In your case though your wifes name on her license does not match her birth certificate.  In our case it does... it is the vax card that is different, it is in her married name when her ID and birth certificate are both in her maiden name.  Since the marriage license we are bringing has her maiden name (which the divorce agreement won't),  we are hoping that is enough of a bridge document.  Either way if not, we will have the negative proctored Covid test which would allow her on even if she wasn't vaxxed and they won't accept her proof she is.  Better safe than sorry.

I also forgot to mention my wife also was married before...before we were married she would bring her divorce agreement as well as a bridging document. So if I am correct, her name on her vax card is her married name, so the divorce agreement would have the ex husbands name on it which would show the same last name as hers...I am fairly certain (if they even ask) that would be sufficient.

You can call them 5 different times and get 5 different answers.

So a person from thousands of miles away sees your test and says it's yes or no. That person may or not be a medical expert.  That person on the phone did zero except send you a yes or no via email . That is zero proof of anything

I have no idea what you are even talking about.

I was referring to when you call Carnival customer service... and ask them alot of general questions..  if u call 5 times, you are likely to get 5 different answers.

Not sure what you are talking about "proof", "medical expert" etc..

The latter being what Carnival employees are used to seeing all the time up until right now.  I would NOT be at all surprised if someone shows up in the next few days with a picture of a test on their phone and are told that won't work and it turns in to a big to-do.

Dissemination of information to employees is not always Carnival's strong suit.

I was on one of the first cruises back in February where you could use a letter of recovery to board. I was asymptomatic and had tested positive two weeks earlier. waited ten days, got the note from the doctor, and on embark day I ran into the employee who was probably in the bathroom when the info about these letters was given out. She saw the word Positive on my test, read the letter, and said that the letter meant nothing and I'd have to test there at the port. I insisted on seeing a supervisor who luckily knew all about it. She personally escorted us through security and to a room where they had us fill out a form and asked us a few questions, then took us to check in.

I just got on Breeze for a short trip to Cozumel and back.(09-08-2022).  I administered the self tests for me and my SO and took the pictures with our names and the tests on a blank piece of paper etc. etc.  When we got to the port(Galveston) the lady checking us in asked us if we were fully vaccinated or not.  I answered “not vaccinated”, and she simply moved on to scan our faces and waved us on to boarding without asking any additional questions or asking to see our tests.  YMMV

Good grief... sounds like the whole "you got to test" is lip service.  If they aren't even checking to see that a "self administered" test is done why bother?

Just let everyone on and be done with it!

I think it's all just optics at this point.  They want to be done with it I'm sure. I mean look at all the people freaking out because they are allowing the unvaxed to sail now, can you imagine the uproar when they say NO MORE TESTING for anyone.  I know they shouldn't care what one group of people says over another...maybe it's about how the media portrays them and reports it.  I mean they never wanted to shut down in the first place, they were just taking orders from those that abused that power to shut them down and keep them shut down for so long.  Seems like maybe they forgot to handle their own businesses because they were told for so long what to do and how to do.

I don't even know why they bother with unproctored tests.  You could be positive and just get a friend to take the test for you.

There is a famous example of an NFL player who managed to substitute someone else's urine for his own. The test showed up drug free, but he ended up suspended anyway. The test indicated he was pregnant!

So is anyone using VeriFly like they are suggesting?  Just got an email to download the app, but I thought mostly the vaxed people were using that app.

I was wondering the same thing. What’s the point if we are not able to upload vax cards?

I personally would not use it.  I am careful with my information and generally do not let 3rd party (especially apps) have any medical information.

Anyone, aside from the Galveston cruiser, have any actual input on the OPs question re: unsupervised testing?  I'm just really curious how this is being handled.  Seems so pointless overall.

Waiting for the same

How hard is it to stick a swab up your nose?

I suppose it's not...but people shouldn't have to because it just doesn't matter. As pointless as it is....test ALL or test NONE.

I too will be very interested.  We leave soon on a cruise that still requires supervised testing due to its length.  Even though we are fully vaccinated and boosted we have to go through the inconvenience and expense of regular Covid testing.  If non vaccinated cruiser can self test then fully vaccinated and boosted should be able to also regardless of cruise length. Aren't we actually safer passengers to have on board than unvaccinated self-testers. It will be interesting to see reports of illness from people on ships that didn't require full testing compared to ours.  I'll make a point to post after we return if I noticed any indication of people being quarantined.  Perhaps we will have a safer cruise because of it.  We'll see.

We were on the first cruise following the changes out of Tampa on Sept. 10th. The first woman at check-in seemed confused when we said we were not vaccinated. She said that we would need to be tested. I explained that the website said that we just needed pis with names, date and test  results. She started looking through papers when another person came over, looked at our pics and said that we were good to go. No problem!
